Planteray The rum series expresses a unique and wide range of old quality rums from the Caribbean. Each rum expresses individual character, unique flavor and style, depending on which country in the Caribbean they originate from. Traditional distillation methods in the Caribbean vary from country to country and plantation to plantation. The use of Pot Stills produces soft, full-bodied and aromatic rums, whereas Column Distillation creates light, elegant and juicy rums. Freshly harvested sugar cane from the plantations is crushed and pressed and the cane juice is extracted. This sugar cane juice is gently heated and turned into molasses. The fermentation of the molasses lasts from 12 hours to several days, depending on the type of rum the distillery traditionally produces. A long fermentation expresses itself in a full-bodied and characterful flavor, a short fermentation in a soft and light flavor. The finished fermented molasses contains around 6-10% vol. and is distilled in different traditional stills, depending on which country in the Caribbean the rum originates from.
