    Expert's Description

About Barbadillo Sherry

Barbadillo is one of the sherry region's oldest and most respected family-owned houses, founded in 1821 in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. For newcomers, the house's Manzanilla is a natural entry point into sherry's light, saline, fresh style; for connoisseurs it's interesting that Barbadillo's location on the Atlantic coast creates a uniquely local yeast flora during ageing, a detail that makes Sanlúcar sherry markedly different from sherry from nearby Jerez.

History & Background

Barbadillo was founded in 1821 in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and is today the oldest and largest family-owned sherry house in the region, still run by the same family across several generations. The town's proximity to the Atlantic creates a more humid microclimate than in nearby Jerez, promoting a thicker flor yeast layer during ageing and creating Manzanilla's characteristic light, saline style. Over two centuries, Barbadillo has expanded its range but has held onto its position as one of the leading advocates for the distinct Sanlúcar style.

Production & Style

The sherry is made using the classic solera method from Palomino grapes and aged under a layer of flor yeast, giving it its distinctive freshness.

Signature Style

Dry, Nutty, Saline
The flavor offers a dry, nutty character with a touch of salinity and sea air.
