  • Bottle of apple snaps with golden colour and simple label
    Item no.: 2245674-912

In the middle of the Little Belt, between Haderslev and Assens, sits an island barely three kilometres long. Among vines and apple trees, a small distillery quietly makes something most people have never heard of.

    The Expert's Description

Nettle Snaps from Årø Vingård is a Danish spiced snaps distilled on the island of Årø in the Little Belt and bottled at 35%.

Årø Vingård began life as a vineyard in 2004, when Svend Aage planted the first vines on the island. Jakob and Lisbeth Leij took over in 2015 and have since expanded with an apple orchard and their own distilling setup. Alongside the wine and their gin production, they now make a range of spiced snapses, and Nettle Snaps is one of them, sitting next to siblings like dill and blackcurrant snaps.

The snaps is not cask aged. It's built to be fresh and herbal, with the character coming from the raw ingredient itself rather than from wood and time.

  • Golden bottle of cask-aged Swedish aquavit
    Item no.: 222786506-1972

The name is a greeting from 1891 - Gammal Fin carries the very first recipe O.P. Anderson ever put a name to. Cask-aged, golden and full-bodied, it's the aquavit every other bottle in the house is measured against.

    The Expert's Description

O.P. Anderson Gammal Fin is a Swedish organic aquavit at 40% ABV, drawn from the house's historic founding recipe.

The name comes straight from the original label, "Gammal Fin 1ma Aquavit", which Carl August Anderson presented at the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1891 in honour of his father Olof Peter Anderson. The aquavit is matured in oak casks, giving it a golden colour and a fuller, rounder character than the house's clear expression, while the classic spicing of caraway, anise and fennel keeps faith with tradition.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is full and spiced, caraway and anise upfront, supported by a warm, slightly sweet cask note.

    Palate

The palate is round and full-bodied with caraway, anise and fennel, carried by the oak's soft sweetness.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, with a lasting spiced, lightly toasted note from the cask ageing.

  • Fürst Bismarck Kornbrand Vintage Bottling Germany Akvavit 70 cl 38%
    Item no.: 222479-1477741

In the Sachsenwald forest south of Hamburg, the Bismarck family has been distilling grain since 1799 – long before anyone called it Doppelkorn. The label on this bottle is worn and time-stained, the blackletter script almost eaten away, yet the name Fürst Bismarck still stands out clearly.

    Expert's Description

Fürst Bismarck Kornbrand is a German Doppelkorn distilled from rye and wheat and bottled at 38%. The recipe dates back to 1799, when Ferdinand von Bismarck founded the family's grain distillery at Gut Schönhausen in the Altmark region, and it has been passed down through generations since. From 1874, Otto von Bismarck himself took charge of the distillery in Friedrichsruh, and under his leadership production grew steadily, until Fürst Bismarck became the market leader among grain spirits in northern Germany during the 1960s.

The spirit is double distilled: a first rough distillation followed by a fine distillation, in which the master distiller separates the best part of the spirit from the rest. Finally, the concentrated grain distillate is brought down to drinking strength with pure water. The bottle itself, with its textured paper label, gilt-framed portrait medallion and the family's coat of arms with three clover leaves, carries an older design than the one the brand uses today, hinting at just how long Fürst Bismarck has been on the shelves.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A firm, clean grain aroma greets the nose first, with a touch of sweetness and freshly baked bread.

    Palate

Mild and round on the palate, with spiced rye up front and a softer wheat character behind it, reminiscent of fresh bread.

    Finish

The finish is mild and balanced, drying slightly at the edge with a last, gently spiced note.

    Specifications

    Name: Fürst Bismarck Kornbrand

  • Malteserkreuz Aquavit Vintage Bottle 2 Danisco Danish Akvavit 70 cl 43%
    Item no.: 22236906-19744

Berlin, the 1920s. The city's finest hotels wanted the real Aalborg Akvavit, but German customs made it nearly impossible to import. So a distillery was built and the drink was brewed locally, faithful to the original Danish recipe.

    Expert Description

Malteserkreuz Aquavit is a German-produced Akvavit made to an original Danish recipe and bottled at 43%.

The story begins on 18 February 1924, when the first bottle left the factory in Berlin. The reason was thoroughly bureaucratic: customs and import restrictions in the 1920s made it almost impossible to bring the popular Aalborg Taffel Akvavit into Germany, so De Danske Spritfabrikker decided to brew a faithful copy locally in Berlin instead. The recipe followed the original closely, and the very first bottles were hand-labelled, wrapped in white silk paper and shipped in wooden crates to Berlin's most prestigious hotels, the Adlon and the Eden.

This particular bottle comes from an earlier production era than the Akvavit sold today. Modern Malteserkreuz is bottled at 40%, while this edition is bottled at 43% and carries the name Danisco De Danske Spritfabrikker Berlin GmbH on the label. The alcohol is extra-finely filtered and flavoured with caraway and dill in the classic style, where the spices infuse the spirit rather than being distilled together with it.

As a collector's bottle, it should be judged on its age and condition rather than treated as a drink ready for the table. Cork, seal and fill level should be checked carefully before use, and drinkability cannot be guaranteed on a bottle of this age.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The brand's classic profile offers a distinct, spicy caraway note with a hint of dill and a light sweetness underneath.

    Palate

Soft and rounded on the palate, where caraway and dill again take the lead, backed by a fine spiced warmth from the alcohol.

    Finish

Dry and clean, closing with a touch of citrus typical of the style.

    Item no.: 222479-147896

In Steinhagen, Westphalia, grain has been turned into clear spirit since the village first earned its name as a distilling town. This bottle carries that thread forward — a faded label, a quality seal from 1976, and a story older than most people realise.

    Expert description

Landwirth's Kronen Doppelkorn is a German Doppelkorn (Kornbrand) from Landwirth-Brennerei GmbH & Co KG in Steinhagen, Westphalia, bottled at 38%.

Doppelkorn is a clear German grain spirit that must reach at least 32% alcohol to be called Kornbrand, and only earns the name Doppelkorn from 37.5% upward. The tradition runs deepest in Lower Saxony, Westphalia and Thuringia, where grain has been distilled this way for centuries. The spirit is distilled twice to preserve its delicate grain character, and it sees no cask — this is an unaged, clear dram, bottled straight after distillation.

The label itself describes the spirit as "ehrlich, mild und klar, herzhaft und bekömmlich" — honest, mild and clear, hearty and wholesome. Landwirth-Brennerei was founded in 1906 as a cooperative distillery in Steinhagen, then the heartland of Westphalian grain-spirit production. The bottle carries a red DLG quality seal from 1976, a recognised German agricultural quality mark, showing the product was judged and awarded in that year.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clean grain, a touch of bread crust and a light sweetness, just as the producer's own label promises — mild, with no sharp edges.

    Palate

Soft and round on the tongue, carried by grain and a faint nutty warmth, without the harshness found in younger, rougher grain spirits.

    Finish

Short and clean, closing on a warm note that lives up to the label's own claim of being "bekömmlich" — easy-drinking and wholesome.

Landwirth-Brennerei started life in 1906 as a cooperative distillery owned jointly by local farmers in Steinhagen — hence the name "Landwirth's" (farmer's). In 1934 the distillery passed into the hands of the König company, and in 1974 the original factory buildings in Steinhagen were abandoned. Steinhagen itself is still known in Germany today as the home of the protected spirit Steinhäger.

  • Bornholm Spirits Miniature Giftbox Danish Organic 8x5 cl 18-40%
    Item no.: 059763-77789

Bornholm is a rocky island where the sea, the granite and the northern light find their way into everything distilled there. This tasting box gathers eight of Bornholm Spirits' most characterful bottles in miniature — from a rich coffee liqueur to a spiced chili schnapps and a crisp gin. One island, eight glasses.

    Expert's Description

Bornholm Spirits Tasting Box No. 2 is a gift box containing eight 5 cl miniature bottles of schnapps, dram, coffee liqueur and gin from the Danish producer Bornholm Spirits, with ABV ranging from 18% to 40%.

The brand is run by three friends who bought Den Bornholmske Spritfabrik in Nexø in 2021 and carried on the factory's craft, which stretches back more than a century. Spirit production on Bornholm dates back to 1855, when a steam distillery in Hasle first made aquavit on the island. Today, Bornholm Spirits' range holds more than 30 organic products, and the tasting box has become one of the easiest ways to meet all of them at once.

The box holds Special Edition 1 – Rhubarb & Star Anise, a light, summery schnapps created with chef Casper Sobczyk. Alongside it sits Brew Coffee Liqueur, a full-bodied liqueur with notes of rum and vanilla, and Bornholmer Sevablødda, a cherry dram made from an old 1908 recipe. No. 3 Fig Schnapps and No. 8 Chili & Honey bring the spicier side of the range, while the final three bottles — Gin Bornholm Sunset, Gin Bornholm Cucumber & Lemon and Gin Bornholm Berries Gin Liqueur — carry the tasting into gin territory.

All eight products are organic and made with Bornholm's own water, drawn from bedrock that has settled for billions of years. The box comes with a cocktail card, pairing each bottle with its own drink recipe.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aromas cover a lot of ground here — roasted coffee and brown sugar in Brew, tart cherries with a whisper of clove in Sevablødda, and rhubarb with sweet star anise in Special Edition 1. The gins bring cucumber, citrus and fresh berries.

    Palate

On the palate the box swings between sweet and spiced: the roundness of honey in No. 8, the silky sweetness of fig in No. 3, and a gentle burn of chili that ties it all together. The gins are drier and fresher, with a clear juniper backbone.

    Finish

The finish shifts from bottle to bottle — soft and creamy on the coffee liqueur, a light spiced bite on the schnapps, and a clean, refreshing close on the gins.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg Porse Snaps Dansk Akvavit is a Danish aquavit at 40% ABV from Aalborg Akvavit.

The Aalborg name dates back to 1846 and is one of the best-known in Danish aquavit tradition, today part of the Anora Group. Porse Snaps was launched in 1965 and is built on an extract of porse, also known as bog myrtle or sweet gale, harvested at Lille Vildmose in North Jutland, flavoured with sherry and rosemary distillate.

Porse has historically been used as a spice and preservative, and the plant gives the aquavit its distinctive herbal, fresh base note, while sherry and rosemary add depth.

The sun sat in the glass long before the bottle was opened. Four months on sherry casks and a touch of Caribbean rum meet Danish grain spirit, and the result is warm, round and faintly exotic - the cold table gets an unexpected visit from southern climates.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg FAD is a Danish akvavit at 37.5% ABV that breaks from most of the Aalborg family by skipping the classic, dominant caraway flavour altogether.

The spirit first rests for four months on sherry casks before being finished with rum from the Caribbean. That combination gives a spirit with clear warmth from the rum, supported by notes of bitter orange, lemon peel and vanilla from the cask ageing.

Aalborg FAD is the newest addition to the Aalborg family, made for those who prefer a mild, round dram over the strong, spiced caraway character usually associated with Danish akvavit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma opens with rum and a light sweetness, with a hint of vanilla and ripe fruit in the background.

    Palate

The palate is mild and round, where bitter orange and lemon peel mingle with the warmth of the rum and a faint sweetness from the sherry cask.

    Finish

The finish is soft and lingering, with a last touch of vanilla and a warm, southern character.

    The Expert's Description

Snaps Bornholm Frost No 1 is a clear organic Danish aquavit at 40% alcohol.

Frost is the clear counterpart to the golden Blond in Snaps Bornholm's core range, distilled from organic wheat and local spring water that has rested deep in Bornholm's bedrock. This gives the aquavit an entirely clean, almost water-clear base to build its flavour on.

What sets Frost apart from the rest of the range is its deliberately restrained spicing. Caraway, dill and a touch of citrus are worked in gently, so the aquavit never turns dominant but instead stays fresh and silky throughout.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Light and fresh, with a hint of caraway, dill and a touch of citrus.

    Item no.: 2222706-1972

There is a late-summer afternoon in Denmark when apples drop into the grass and a vanilla pod sits quietly steeping in a glass. That is the mood this bottle tries to pour out.

    The Expert's Description

Snaps Bornholm Apple and Vanilla Almond is an organic Danish aquavit at 25% alcohol.

The bottle was developed together with cake enthusiast and entrepreneur Ditte Julie, known for her baking and stoneware brand "By Ditte Julie" and for inspiring home bakers with her cake book. Together with Bornholm Spirits she has created a sweet, dessert-style aquavit that gathers the Danish summer into a bottle.

What sets this edition apart is the combination of ripe apples, split vanilla pods and a touch of almond, evoking memories of a freshly baked apple cake. The lower alcohol strength also makes it easy to enjoy in slightly larger sips than a traditional aquavit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe apples and sweet vanilla, carried by a soft touch of almond.

    Palate

Sweet and round with clear apple and vanilla character, sliding gently into a light, nutty almond tone.

    Item no.: 22227865378-1006-2

Down in the cellar the barrels lie resting in the dark, while the figs slowly give up their sweetness to the wood. Time has to pass before something this calm can be poured into a glass.

    The Expert's Description

Snaps Bornholm No 6 Barrel-Aged Fig is an organic Danish schnapps at 40% alcohol.

Where No 3 Fig is a fresh, round take on fig flavour, this bottle tells a different story altogether. The schnapps has matured in oak barrels, giving it a deeper, more complex character and a bronze-toned hue in the glass. It is one of the editions Snaps Bornholm itself highlights as among their best organic schnapps.

The barrel ageing draws tannins and a light vanilla note from the oak, which blend with the fig's natural sweetness. The result is a full-bodied, round schnapps that, according to the producer, only gets better with time in the bottle.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe figs meet a light sweetness from the oak and a hint of vanilla from the barrel.

    Palate

  • Wax-sealed akvavit bottle from Norrbottens Destilleri in Sweden
    Item no.: 059763-615-1122

Caraway and dill are the old, familiar backbone of Nordic snaps. Norrbottens Destilleri chooses to build on that with a spice most people have never met in an akvavit before - and the result is a schnapps that feels both familiar and surprising at once.

    The Expert's Description

Norrbottens Destilleri Fusion 004 Schnaps is a Swedish akvavit bottled at 38% ABV.

The bottle comes from Norrbottens Destilleri in Töre, a small distillery in Norrbotten close to the Arctic Circle along Sweden's northern coast. The distillery was founded in 2016 by Dennis Bejedal, a self-taught distiller born in Stockholm who is now based in the village of Pålänge, home to roughly 400 people. Every bottle from the distillery is hand-dipped in wax, and production is built on organic ingredients sourced from Norrbotten's forests and soil.

Fusion 004 is the distillery's take on an akvavit that blends the traditional with the unexpected. Caraway and dill lay down a familiar, herbal foundation, while Batak pepper - an Indonesian peppercorn - adds a crisp, citrus-driven sharpness. Toasted sweet fennel rounds off the flavour with a warm, aromatic finish. The product is organic certified.

    Tasting Notes

    Item no.: 05222-754

Every Danish lunch table has its own akvavit, but Falkendal Snaps Akvavit is built for those who care about traditional craft. On the farm in Kagerup, dill seed and caraway meet at an unhurried, deliberate pace, far removed from the speed of industrial production.

    The Expert's Description

Falkendal Snaps Akvavit is a Danish Akvavit from Thornæs Distillery, bottled at 40%. It is the distillery's take on the classic Danish lunch-table akvavit, where dill seed and caraway come together in a familiar but carefully balanced composition. Thornæs Distillery is based on the Falkendal farm in Kagerup near Helsinge, where founder Torben Thornæs Andersen has been distilling in a converted horse stable since 2019.

In this expression, the akvavit is spiced with a touch of lemon for freshness and a whisper of fennel that ties the spices together. The final layer comes from locally harvested flower honey from the countryside around Græsted, adding a gentle sweetness underneath that rounds the akvavit off, even for drinkers who normally find akvavit too sharp.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dill and caraway lead the way, with a touch of citrus and a faint sweetness of honey sitting behind them.

    Palate

Winter in North Zealand is raw and quiet, but on the Falkendal farm in Kagerup, a light burns in the old horse stable where Thornæs Distillery finds its own kind of calm in the dark. This is where Falkendal Snaps Vinter is born — a dram that smells of orange peel over an open fire and a hint of frost on the windowpane.

    The Expert's Description

Falkendal Snaps Vinter is a Danish Snaps from Thornæs Distillery, bottled at 41%. The snaps belongs to the distillery's Falkendal range, named after the farm in Kagerup near Helsinge, where founder Torben Thornæs Andersen swapped a career in communications for the dream of crafting Danish spirits in 2018. A trip through the Highlands and Speyside gave him the grounding he needed, and by 2019 production was under way in the converted horse stable on the farm.

The winter edition is built for the darkest months of the year. It is loaded with juicy orange, crisp apple and a touch of fennel, and the result is a round, full-bodied snaps with a pleasant sweetness and a warming finish that lingers. It is made to sit alongside the herring and roast duck of a Danish Christmas lunch, but it works just as well as a warm gesture on a cold winter afternoon.

Northern Norway voted its favourite into existence when Maquavit was born — an aquavit shaped by public taste rather than a single master distiller's idea.

    The Expert's Description

Arcus Maquavit is a Norwegian aquavit bottled at 40% ABV.

The aquavit is based on a classic Lysholm recipe, though its final composition was decided by a jury of northern Norwegians who worked through roughly 8,000 submitted suggestions for what a true "aquavit of Northern Norway" should taste like. The result is cask-aged for 5 years.

The long cask ageing gives the aquavit a deep golden colour and a round, full character with clear notes of chocolate, vanilla and sherry.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Chocolate, vanilla and sherry.

    Palate

Full and round, with spice and cask character.

    Finish

    Long, with lingering cask influence.

A fixture on the Norwegian festive table since the 1950s — Gilde Taffel is the aquavit many Norwegians grew up with at Christmas and celebrations.

    The Expert's Description

Arcus Gilde Taffel is a Norwegian aquavit bottled at 37.5% ABV.

The aquavit belongs to the Gilde range from Arcus and has been part of the formal Norwegian festive table since 1957. It's aged for 3-6 months in old oak casks, which contribute little colour or flavour on their own but give the spices time to settle and knit together.

The result is a medium-bodied aquavit with clear caraway character, supported by anise and citrus.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Citrus peel, anise and caraway.

    Palate

Medium-bodied with clear caraway and anise.

    Finish

    Spiced and well balanced.

The wind off the dunes, the salt of the sea and a touch of honey from the North Jutland coast, gathered into one bottle. Svinkløv Klit tastes of that landscape.

    The Expert's Description

Svinkløv Klit Snaps is a Danish spiced schnapps at 37.5% ABV from Nordisk Brænderi.

The schnapps is named after Svinkløv Klit, the hilly dune landscape by Jammerbugten in North Jutland that inspires much of the distillery's range. Nordisk Brænderi is run by Anders Bilgram, who distils spirits from nature's own ingredients at a hands-on micro-distillery in Vester Svenstrup near Fjerritslev.

Svinkløv Klit is distilled with marram grass, amber and honey, then matured on sea buckthorn and rosehip, both typical of the dune landscape along Jutland's west coast.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Honeyed sweetness meets a lightly salty, herbal note of marram grass.

    Palate

Round and spiced, with clear honey and a tart edge from sea buckthorn.

    Finish

A fresh, lightly tart finish from rosehip that balances the sweetness nicely.
