Jodhpur Gin

A French gin dressed in the colours and aesthetic of the Indian city of Jodhpur, a tribute to the colonial-era birth of gin-and-tonic culture. With 13 botanicals, it bridges two worlds that on the surface share little in common.

  • Bottle of Jodhpur Premium London Dry Gin
    Item no.: 2222786539-1021

Jodhpur in Rajasthan is known as "the Blue City" for its blue-painted houses and has for centuries been a hub for the spice trade and colonial history. This gin draws on the city's exotic heritage and pairs it with English distilling craft.

    Expert's description

Jodhpur London Dry Gin is an English Premium London Dry Gin distilled four times in traditional copper stills and bottled at 43%.

The gin is made in England but takes its inspiration from India and its name from the city of Jodhpur, a symbol of authenticity, spice diversity and colonial history.

13 carefully selected botanicals, including Belgian and Saxon angelica root, Moroccan coriander, ginger and cinnamon, give the gin a complex yet balanced flavour profile, where Indian spices take centre stage alongside juniper and liquorice.

The quadruple distillation in traditional copper stills ensures a particular purity and clarity that lets each spice come through clearly.

  • Bottle of Jodhpur Reserve Premium London Dry Gin from England
    Item no.: 2222786539-1265

The name comes from the Indian desert city of Jodhpur, but the gin is distilled in England's oldest distillery and was created specifically with the Spanish market in mind.

    Expert's description

Jodhpur Reserve Premium London Dry Gin is an English London Dry Gin distilled five times in copper pot stills and bottled at 43%.

13 botanicals go into the recipe, including juniper, coriander seed and two types of angelica, alongside more unusual choices such as black pepper, cardamom and a touch of bitter almond.

The Reserve expression differs from the classic Jodhpur Gin by resting briefly in used Spanish brandy casks, giving the gin a remarkable smoothness and a delicate golden hue.

This cask resting is unusual for a gin and draws it closer to whisky and brandy tradition, while retaining its spiced, India-inspired character.

    Palate

About Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a French gin whose name and label draw inspiration from the Indian city of Jodhpur and the colonial-era gin culture of that time. For newcomers it's an aromatic, mild gin with a fine balance of sweetness, spice and bitterness; for collectors it's notable that the gin uses as many as 13 different botanicals, giving it an unusually intense and layered flavour profile compared with many classic London dry styles.

History & Background

Jodhpur Gin was created as a tribute to the exotic gin-and-tonic culture that developed among British officers and officials in colonial India, where gin was mixed with tonic to make the bitter anti-malarial drug quinine easier to take. The name and the distinctive label, inspired by the architecture and colours of the Indian city of Jodhpur, are a deliberate nod to that history. Although the gin carries an Indian name and a colonial-era story, it is actually distilled in France using the French method, creating an interesting meeting of two cultures in one bottle. The 13 botanicals are composed to recreate the spiced, exotic experience the story references.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and classic London Dry botanicals using a French method.
