Danish gin in different styles

Danish gin is available in a wide variety of styles. Among other things, there are a number of brands that use the famous London dry technique, where the recipes and manufacturing methods of the old British gin school are imitated to the letter while a number of other manufacturers are characterized by exploring new distillation methods.

The gin comes from Copenhagen Distillery in Kløvermarken, where the distillery's Master Distiller developed the recipe specifically for the collaboration with F.C. Copenhagen. The distillery was founded by Henrik Elsner in 2009 in Fredensborg and is defined by its philosophy of using very few raw materials, in sharp contrast to most mass-produced gins.
ELG No 2 is built on the same three botanicals as ELG No 1, juniper, coriander seed and Danish carrots, where the whole carrot, including the green tops, goes into the distillation.
What makes No 2 an Old Tom is an additional juniper extract soaked in alcohol for four weeks, added afterwards, giving the gin a natural sweetness without using sugar, honey or liquorice root.

ELG Miniature No 4 is a Danish Pink Gin distilled at Stonge Grange and bottled at 46.5% in a 5cl bottle.
The gin is made by extracting purple carrots in alcohol for one week, after which the extract is added to ELG No 1, the recipe of juniper, coriander seed and Danish carrots.
The purple carrots give the gin its distinctive pink hue entirely naturally, without any artificial colouring.
The small bottle is ideal for getting acquainted with ELG No 4 before investing in a full-size bottle.
