About Hutcheson Port Wine

Hutcheson Port is a Portuguese port house with roots in the Scottish trading family Hutcheson, later linked to the house of Feuerheerd & Associados. For the newcomer it's a classic port experience from one of the Douro Valley's more traditional producers; for the history-minded, the name itself tells a story of how Scottish and English trading families from the 1700s and 1800s helped build the port industry as we know it today, their names still visible on labels generations later.

History & Background

Scottish and English trading families played a central role in developing the Douro Valley's port trade from the 1700s onward, with many establishing trading houses in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia to export port to the British market. The Hutcheson name comes from one such Scottish trading family and was later linked to the Portuguese house Feuerheerd & Associados. This blending of Scottish trading tradition and Portuguese wine production is typical of many of the Douro Valley's older port houses, where international names still bear witness to the region's long trading history.
