A single harvest year, captured and set aside in cask for more than a decade before it was time to fill the bottle. The double name on the label tells its own story of two merged Port houses.
Expert's Description
Hutcheson 2009 Colheita Feuerheerd is a Portuguese Colheita Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks and bottled at 20%.
Colheita means 'harvest' in Portuguese and denotes a Tawny Port from a single, named vintage - here 2009 - where the law requires at least seven years of cask ageing before it can be sold. This bottle's long maturation gives it a depth younger Tawny Ports don't achieve.
The Feuerheerd name comes from one of Porto's older trading houses, which merged with Hutcheson in 1996 under the name Hutcheson, Feuerheerd & Associados. Since 2006 the Spanish-owned Sogevinus group has run production, but the house's reputation for Colheita styles specifically goes back much further.

Did You Know?
When Hutcheson and Feuerheerd merged in 1996, it became common to see both names on the same label - a practice many old Port houses in the Douro have continued after mergers and acquisitions, as a way of preserving both names' history.
