About Borders

The Borders Distillery opened in 2018 in Hawick and was the first legal distillery in the Scottish Borders region since the last one closed back in 1837. For newcomers it's an easy way into Scotch, offering a fresh, fruity style without heavy, rusty notes, while collectors follow the distillery closely precisely because early bottlings from such a young operation are rarely found anywhere else.

History & Background

The Borders Distillery opened in 2018 in Hawick in the Scottish Borders and was the first legal whisky production in the region in around 180 years. The distillery is housed in a former electricity station and, besides malt whisky, also produces gin, including the acclaimed William Kerr's Gin, while the whisky continues maturing toward its first major releases.

Did You Know?

The town of Hawick actually had a long whisky history before the dry years, but had to wait almost two centuries for a new generation of distillers to return to the region.
