Rum Categories

Are you, like us at Whisky.dk, absolutely crazy about rum? Then this page is just for you. On this page you can find a universe of rum. We have a great passion for rum and we really want to share it with you.

Rum is made from cane sugar and water. This mixture is fermented to form a liquid containing 8-10% alcohol. It is then distilled to an alcohol percentage of up to 90% and then stored on oak barrels. Once the rum has been stored, it is diluted to 40-43% alcohol and filled into bottles.

Below you can see our large selection of rum. We have many different brands and variants. By clicking on the categories below, you see different kinds of rum variants.

  • Rammstein Limited Edition Oloroso Cask Finish Blended Rum 70 cl 46%
    Item no.: 059763-64584

There's something wonderfully unhinged about a German metal band picking out sherry casks with a team of Danish rum blenders. Somehow it works. This release sends Rammstein's tropical rum blend through Spanish sherry wood one more time, and the result lands darker and heavier than most of its siblings in the range.

    The Expert's Description

Rammstein Limited Edition Oloroso Cask Finish is a Blended Rum made from rum sourced in Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, finished in Ex-Oloroso casks and bottled at 46%. The base blend has spent up to 12 years in ex-bourbon casks before receiving an additional 32 months in casks that previously held Spanish Oloroso sherry - the same approach the band has used for the sibling releases finished in cognac, Sauternes, Limoux and port casks, just with a different cask and therefore a different direction in the glass.

The rum belongs to Rammstein's Limited Edition series, where the band works together with the Danish spirits house 1423 to select and mature rum released under the Rammstein name. The Jamaican, Guyanese and Trinidadian base blend runs through the whole series, but it's the final stretch in cask that gives each release its own character - here, it's the dried fruit and nutty edge of Oloroso sherry that leaves its mark.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers full aromas of dried fruit, roasted nuts and orange peel, spiced with warm notes leaning towards cinnamon and clove from the sherry casks.

    Palate

On the palate the rum is full-bodied and intense, with notes of raisins, dark chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts - a rich, sweet profile that never tips into cloying.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm, with a dry, faintly bitter edge of dark chocolate and oak that lingers well after the sweet raisin note has faded.

  • 24 Days of Rum Green Edition - Rum Advent Calendar filled with 24 x 2cl
    Item no.: 222298744-6658

Every door is its own small journey. One day you land in the Caribbean with warm molasses and brown sugar, the next in Scotland or on Madeira, where rum picks up an entirely different accent. 24 Days of Rum Green Edition gathers that spread in one box, opened one country at a time through December.

    Expert's Description

24 Days of Rum Green Edition - Rum Advent Calendar filled with 24 x 2cl is a rum advent calendar with 24 different rums and rum-based spirits from the Danish spirits house 1423, in miniature bottles at 2cl each and bottled at 43.7%.

The idea is the same as elsewhere in the family: one window a day, one new country, a new style. The journey passes the Caribbean classic Plantation Barbados 5 YO from Barbados, moves on to 1731 Fine & Rare Guatemala Grand Reserva from Guatemala, and takes in two entirely different expressions from Cane Island – one from Trinidad, one from Australia. Naga Siam draws its rum from Thailand, Rhum J.M and Damoiseau represent the French agricole style from Martinique and Guadeloupe respectively, Worthy Park and Chairman's Reserve stand for Jamaica and Saint Lucia respectively, and Novo Fogo brings Brazilian cachaça into the mix. Whistler, usually known for Irish whiskey from Boann Distillery, appears here in a rum expression, while Batavia Arrack from By the Dutch draws on the Javanese arrack tradition. The strength spans just as widely as the geography: from several of the milder bottles at 40% to Pusser's Rum Gunpowder Proof at 54.5% and the calendar's peak, Patridom XO Cask from the Dominican Republic, bottled at a full 65%. Two glasses and a tasting-notes guide are included, making it easy to follow the differences from day to day – and every miniature carries its own QR code with the background story of that particular rum house.

Behind the calendar is 1423, founded in 2008 in Odense by Bintu, Joshua and Glenn under the original name BJG. Shortly before their first rum release, Parminder S. Bhatia joined, and the company became 1423 ApS. In 2012, Thomas Vogensen, a trained accountant, came on board and helped turn the dream into a proper business. 24 Days of Rum launched in 2015, and today 1423 is one of the most respected names in independent rum bottling in Europe. For corporate gifts, the shop takes orders from 6 units upwards at ordre@whisky.dk.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

There's no single scent to expect in this calendar – strength ranges from 40% to 65%, and you can tell before a drop is poured. Some bottles bring warm molasses, brown sugar and toasted coconut, others fresh sugarcane, citrus and green notes from the French agricole styles, and a couple of the strongest send up a dry, almost peppery spice note alongside freshly cut oak.

    Palate

On the palate the spread continues. Some of the 24 are light and soft with a touch of vanilla and tropical fruit, others dry and oak-driven with caramel, tobacco and dark fruit, and the strongest – led by Patridom XO Cask and Pusser's Gunpowder Proof – bite straight back with pepper and spice.

    Finish

Short and fresh on some, long and woody on others. The closer you get to the calendar's strongest bottles, the longer the warmth lingers after the last sip.

  • Woodrows of Edinburgh 1993/2026 A Cuban Distillery 32 year old Denmark Exclusive Caribbean Rum 58,8%
    Item no.: 0597655-96321

A single cask has been waiting since 1993, while Cuba changed shape outside the warehouse walls. The tropical heat has taken its toll every single year, and only twenty-four bottles remain to tell the story.

    Expert Description

Woodrow's of Edinburgh Warehouse Reserve Caribbean Rum 32 Years Old is a Cuban Rum matured in a single cask and bottled at cask strength of 58.8%. The distillery itself is undisclosed - a common choice for the independent bottler Woodrow's of Edinburgh when the source prefers to stay anonymous.

The rum was put into wood on the 30th of September 1993 and bottled on the 18th of August 2026, giving it a full 32 years of maturation in a tropical climate. Cuba's heat accelerates maturation considerably compared to a cooler Scottish warehouse, but it also claims far more of the cask's contents to evaporation each year - which explains the unusually small yield from cask number 6402.

Woodrow's of Edinburgh is best known as a Scotch whisky bottler based in Leith, but occasionally reaches for interesting casks outside the whisky world too. Everything the house releases is bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration and with natural colour - this rum is no exception. The bottle is marked as a Denmark Exclusive.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark and rich with muscovado sugar and dark chocolate, spiced with ginger and dates. A whisper of unlit cigar rounds off the depth.

    Palate

Silky and rounded, opening with muscovado sugar and caramelised treacle. Coffee and ginger biscuits follow, while cloves and tropical pineapple bring the mid-palate to life, underpinned by hints of leather and herbs.

    Finish

Long and warming, with dark chocolate and vanilla slowly giving way to cinnamon, cloves and candied ginger.

    Investment Potential

High. A yield of just twenty-four bottles from a single cask after 32 years of maturation makes this rum a genuine rarity, and Woodrow's of Edinburgh holds a strong reputation among collectors of independent bottlings.

    Did You Know?

The twenty-four bottles are all that remain of a cask that held far more back in 1993. Cuba's tropical heat evaporates considerably more of a cask's contents each year than the Scottish climate does - the so-called "angel's share" takes a serious bite in the Caribbean.

  • Infernal Rum IPS 3 - Infernal Personal Selection Trinidad Infernal Rum 52%
    Item no.: 222276-89633

Trinidad sits at the southern edge of the Caribbean, where the sun bakes a cask harder than almost anywhere else on earth. This rum was distilled here at Trinidad Distillers Limited back in 2016 – and has since travelled from that tropical heat to European cellars, where Virgin Oak and Spanish Moscatel casks added a whole new layer to its character.

    Expert's Description

Infernal Rum IPS 3 is a Trinidad Rum distilled at Trinidad Distillers Limited and bottled at 52%, aged in Ex-bourbon casks and finished in Virgin Oak and Moscatel casks.

This bottle marks the third release in the IPS series – Infernal Personal Selection – where Danish pop duo Infernal, Lina Rafn and Paw Lagermann, are given free rein to hand-pick the cask that will carry their name. This time the choice landed on a rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited, distilled in 2016 and first matured tropically in Ex-bourbon casks, before crossing the Atlantic for four further years of ageing in Europe – first in Virgin Oak, then in Spanish Moscatel casks.

Behind the actual selection stands the Danish independent bottler 1423.dk, which specialises in exactly this kind of branded collaboration and made the cask available to Infernal. The result is a rum that carries both the power of tropical maturation and the finesse of European finishing – every bottle is individually numbered and comes with a personal certificate.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and brown sugar arrive first, quickly followed by dried fruit and orange peel, while a hint of spiced oak waits in the background.

    Palate

Full-bodied on the palate with caramel and honey, and the ripe grapes and apricots from the Moscatel casks shine clearly through alongside warm spices.

    Finish

Long and warm, with spiced oak and a wine-like sweetness that lingers well after the last sip.

    Item no.: 2222444-66888

Some rums tell wildly different stories, even when they come from the same corner of the world. 24 Days of Rum S.B.S. Edition is 24 single casks from 24 different corners of rum's map – each one bottled at the exact moment the cask had the most to say, and never to be found in that precise form again.

    Expert's Description

24 Days of Rum S.B.S. Edition - Rum Advent Calendar filled with 24 x 2cl is a rum advent calendar with 24 different rums in miniature bottles at 2cl each, each from a single cask, with strengths from 46% to 62.8% and an average around 50.7%, and with two glasses in the box.

S.B.S. Edition sets itself apart from the rest of the family. Where Blue, Mocha and Black Edition line up 24 different rum brands side by side, every single window here comes from one individual cask from S.B.S. – 1423's own Single Barrel Selection series. No blending, no added sugar, no filtration – just each cask's own character, from tapping to bottle. The journey runs through Mauritius, Nicaragua, Guyana, Tahiti, four separate Jamaica casks, a Caribbean Blend, India, an Indonesia Blend, Fiji, Denmark, Panama, the Philippines, French Antilles, Scotland, Ecuador, Ghana, Réunion, Colombia, yet another Jamaica cask, Guatemala, Trinidad and Venezuela. The ages range from 4 to 28 years, and the casks themselves from 130 to as much as 250 litres – the smaller the cask, the faster and more forceful the influence of the wood.

Behind the concept is 1423 World Class Spirits from Odense, founded in 2008 by Bintu, Joshua and Glenn under the original name BJG. Shortly before their first rum release, Parminder S. Bhatia joined, and the company became 1423 ApS. In 2012, Thomas Vogensen, a trained accountant, came on board and helped turn the dream into a proper business, and 1423's has since become one of the most respected names in independent rum bottling in Europe – with S.B.S. as their own line of single-cask bottlings. For corporate gifts, the shop takes orders from 6 units upwards at ordre@whisky.dk.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

There's no shared scent to expect here – that's the whole point of a set built from single casks. Some lean towards fresh coconut, vanilla pod and green banana, others bring heavy molasses, toasted coconut and caramel, and a few of the strongest casks send up a dry, almost peppery spice note alongside freshly cut oak.

    Palate

On the palate the 24 range from light and creamy with toffee and a touch of cocoa to dry and bitter with roasted nuts, tobacco and dark fruit. The highest strengths bite back immediately – pepper, spice and a clear cask structure – while the milder casks bring softer fruit and a rounder sweetness, all without any added sugar.

    Finish

Short and spiced on some, long and woody on others, but with the same underlying intensity regardless of which country or cask you land on. Several of the strongest casks keep the warmth going long after the last drop is gone.

    Did You Know?

Some of the casks in this calendar hold just 130 litres – less than a quarter of a standard bourbon barrel. The smaller the cask, the greater the surface area the rum has against the wood relative to its own volume, so the smallest casks in S.B.S. Edition have picked up a far faster and more pronounced wood influence than the larger ones.

Rum speaks in many accents. One day it's warm molasses and Caribbean sun, the next it's spice from across Asia or the cellar-cool character of a European take on the category. 24 Days of Rum Blue Edition gathers 24 of those voices in one box, opened one country at a time through December.

    Expert's Description

24 Days of Rum Blue Edition is a rum tasting calendar from the Danish spirits house 1423, made up of 24 miniature bottles at 2cl each from 24 different countries and bottled at 42.5%. The idea is simple: open a new bottle each day in December and travel to a new country – from classic Caribbean and Latin American sugarcane and molasses rums to takes on the category from Asia and Europe, plus a few rum-based spirits along the way that borrow rum's sweetness without quite being rum. Every miniature carries its own label and a QR code that opens the background story of that particular rum house, so the box works as much as a travel guide as a tasting kit. Two glasses and a tasting-notes guide are included, making it easier to put words to the differences from one day to the next.

1423 started as a group of friends who actually bonded over whisky, until rum caught their attention at a Danish spirits fair around the turn of the millennium. What began as curiosity has grown into a Danish spirits house with its own cask warehouse, built around selecting and maturing rum from all over the world – and side projects like this calendar are where that breadth gets poured into one box.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

There's no single scent to expect here – that's the whole point. Some bottles bring warm molasses and brown sugar, others fresh sugarcane and citrus, and a handful lean toward spice and smoke, closer to rum-based spirits than classic rum.

    Palate

The same spread carries through to the glass. Some of the 24 are light and soft with a touch of vanilla, others dry and oak-driven with caramel and dried fruit, and a few bring a spiced, almost peppery edge.

    Finish

Short and fresh at one end of the box, long and woody at the other – the finish is the clearest reminder of just how differently rum can turn out, even when it all starts from the same sugarcane.

The name 1423 actually comes from a mistake. When the team bottled their first rum – a Barbados-Trinidad blend – in November 2008, a note on the bottle got mistaken for a name. The mix-up stuck, and the whole spirits house has been called 1423 ever since.

  • Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Barbados Rum 40%
    Item no.: 22227865-55

There's a story that you can taste the sun on Barbados in this bottle. Coconuts are cut open and left to dry under the Caribbean sun before they're allowed to steep, on their own terms, in good Barbadian rum – no shortcuts, no bottled essence.

    The Expert's Description

Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut is a Barbados Coconut Rum infused with hand-cut, sun-dried coconut and bottled at 40%.

The bottle also marks something bigger: it was one of the first releases under the new Planteray name, launched in early 2024 when the brand retired the old Plantation name. Behind the recipe sit four years of experimentation at Maison Ferrand under master blender Alexandre Gabriel, who set out to build a coconut rum without artificial flavouring – a real-ingredient answer to Malibu rather than a syrup-based one.

The coconuts are grown by local farmers on Barbados and cut open by hand before drying in the sun to concentrate their flavour. The dried pieces are then infused in a blend of column and pot still rum from Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery, and the infusion is finally blended with Barbados rum aged up to three years. One whole coconut goes into every litre of rum in the bottle – no added coconut essence, no shortcuts.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Coconut and vanilla pod meet butterscotch, cinnamon and a touch of sesame oil.

    Palate

Rich and oily in texture, with coconut milk, ripe banana, green ginger and a base note of dark molasses.

    Finish

Long and buttery smooth, with coconut, pepper and vanilla lingering well after the last sip.

    Item no.: 225449-189996

From green and sharp to deep and round. Clément VSOP shows what French oak can do for a rhum agricole when it's given at least four years to settle.

    Expert Description

Clément Rhum Vieux Agricole VSOP is a Martinique Rhum Agricole aged at least four years in French oak casks and bottled at 42-45%.

The rum is distilled from fresh cane juice at Habitation Clément in Le François and then aged under Martinique's tropical sun, where evaporation is far faster than in a colder climate. The tropical climate forces the rum to absorb colour and flavour from the oak in a shorter time, giving VSOP surprising depth for its age. The casks have often previously held cognac or other French spirits, adding a light winey character to the agricole's typically green base.

The result balances the raw, herbal cane character with dried fruit, spice and a soft wood sweetness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried fruit and light vanilla, with a lingering hint of cane and freshly planed wood underneath.

    Palate

Round and spiced with brown sugar, toasted oak and a hint of apricot.

  • Der Gute Pott Echter Westindien 1960ies Vintage Bottle Rum 70 cl 54%
    Item no.: 2265481-35896

Flensburg's harbour once smelled of molasses and wet oak casks – the town was Northern Germany's centre of the rum trade, and ships sailed out for sugarcane and came home laden with rum. That's the air this bottle comes from: a Pott, likely from the 1960s, from an era when the name was synonymous with tea, punch bowls and an entire postwar generation of Germans.

    The Expert's Description

Der Gute Pott 54% is a German rum blend from the trading house H.H. Pott in Flensburg, bottled at 54%.

"Verschnitt" is the German term for a rum assembled from imported overseas rum – in Pott's case rooted in a Jamaican-style profile – then cut down to drinking strength on German soil. The bottle itself even states that it's a foreign product reduced to drinking strength in Germany. The company was founded in 1848 by the sea captain and merchant Hans Hinrich Pott, whose thoroughness and expertise earned him the nickname "Der Gute" – the Good One. The name was registered as a trademark in 1923, and after the Second World War it became the best-selling rum brand in West Germany.

This bottle is an older run of the 54% expression, which the house has always marketed as the stronger of its two standard strengths – built for more than sipping neat. The back label itself recommends it for tea, rum pot preserves, mulled punch and flambéing, and that's still the role this rum plays in German kitchens today.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Warm amber and dark molasses, with a hint of the punch you'd associate with a robust Jamaican-style rum.

    Palate

Full and round, with a complex sweetness that clearly carries the character of the overseas rum behind the blend.

    Finish

Warming and slightly spirituous, better suited to punch, baking and flambéed dishes than to sipping neat.

At Worthy Park Estate, right in the middle of Jamaica, molasses gets boiled down into a rum so heavy on esters it practically announces itself from across the room. That's the raw spirit four different virgin oak casks have since been left to shape, each in its own way, and this bottle is the American one.

    The Expert's Description

SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE American Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Rum distilled at Worthy Park Estate and bottled at cask strength, 61.2%, from an American Virgin Oak cask.

This bottle is one quarter of 1423's "Experimental Cask Series" – a box of four identical 20 cl bottles drawn from the same molasses-based distillate, where each bottle was instead matured in its own virgin oak cask: Spanish, Danish, French and American. The idea is simple and rather clever: same raw rum, same year of distillation, but four different origins of oak, so you can taste exactly what the wood itself does to the spirit without the distillery's style or age getting in the way.

The WPE mark signals that the rum comes from Worthy Park's heaviest ester profile, the style the distillery is best known for among rum enthusiasts. The spirit ran through a copper pot still in 2021 and was then left to rest in the American Virgin Oak cask until bottling in August 2023, unfiltered and with nothing added.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and pineapple meet a clear ester funk, with a sweet vanilla note from the fresh oak sitting just underneath.

    Palate

Tropical fruit and a lightly fermented sweetness, followed by spiced wood and a warm, peppery edge from the virgin timber.

    Finish

Toasted and wood-driven, with a lingering ester sweetness that stays in the mouth.

Four bottles, one and the same rum, four different casks. That's the idea behind this small release from the Danish bottler 1423, where a single Jamaican rum from Worthy Park was split across four virgin oak casks from four different countries — Spanish, Danish, French and American. This bottle is the French edition.

    The Expert's Description

S.B.S 1423 Jamaica 2021 WPE French Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Single Cask Rum from Worthy Park, aged in a French virgin oak cask and bottled at cask strength, 63.6%.

The rum carries the WPE mark, which at Worthy Park denotes the highest-ester style the distillery produces — a profile known for its powerful, almost perfumed fruitiness. The base is molasses, distilled on a traditional pot still in 2021. Rather than resting the rum in a used bourbon or sherry cask, the standard route for most rum, 1423 filled it into a brand-new, unused oak cask sourced from a French cooperage. Casks like that give up their character far quicker and more intensely than seasoned wood, so even a relatively short maturation leaves a clear mark on the rum.

The bottle belongs to 1423's experimental box series from autumn 2023, where four identical 20cl bottles show what the origin of the wood alone changes in one and the same rum. Non-chill filtered and free of additives, like the rest of the S.B.S range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and pineapple meet a whiff of nail polish remover, softened by sweet, fresh wood from the new oak.

    Palate

Tropical fruit and spicy young oak, with a hint of vanilla that just about keeps the ester power in check.

    Finish

Long and oak-tight, with lingering, ester-driven fruit sweetness that stays in the mouth.

In the middle of Jamaica, where sugar cane fields roll up the hills around Lluidas Vale, sits a distillery that has been making rum since the 1740s – with one long pause along the way. Today Worthy Park is back in full swing, and this bottle is the result of a small Danish experiment: what happens when the exact same rum is left to rest on four different types of virgin oak?

    The Expert's Description

S.B.S Jamaica 2021 WPE Danish Virgin Oak is a Jamaican Single Cask Rum distilled from molasses on a pot still at Worthy Park and bottled at cask strength, 61.6%.

The bottle is one quarter of 1423's "Experimental Cask Series" – a box of four 20cl bottles from the same batch of Worthy Park rum, where each cask is a virgin oak barrel sourced from a different country. Alongside the Danish one sit a Spanish, a French and an American release, and the whole point is to taste side by side how the origin of the wood alone changes an otherwise identical rum. The Danish virgin oak cask has given a rum with clear sweetness and spice from the fresh wood, while Worthy Park's signature funk and fermentation character still comes through strongly in the glass.

Worthy Park is among the last 100% Jamaican-owned distilleries on the island and one of the few that still makes rum from its own cane fields to its own bottle. The molasses comes from the estate's own sugar factory, and the rum carries no added colour and is not chill-filtered – as with the rest of the S.B.S range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and tropical fruit meet a clear funky edge, with a touch of vanilla and toasted wood from the fresh oak.

    Palate

Bold and spiced, with dark chocolate, vanilla and a warm woody sweetness, while the fermented Jamaican character stays present underneath it all.

    Finish

Long and warming, with toasted oak, brown spice and a lingering fruit sweetness that fights a little against the high strength.

Worthy Park stopped rum production entirely in the early 1960s due to oversupply in the Jamaican rum industry – and stood silent for more than 40 years. It wasn't until 2005 that the distillery got new copper pot stills from Forsyths in Scotland and properly returned to the rum map.

Jamaica has its own sound in the rum world – funky, fermented, and honestly a little wild – and at Worthy Park Estate, right in the middle of the island, they've been shaping that style since 1720. SBS brought this particular rum home to Denmark and let it rest in a Spanish virgin oak cask, on its own, with nothing else to lean on.

    The Expert's Description

SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE Spanish Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Rum from Worthy Park Estate, aged in a Spanish virgin oak cask and bottled at cask strength, 63.4%.

The rum was distilled from molasses in 2021 on Worthy Park's traditional pot stills and spent two years in a single cask before being bottled in August 2023. The cask is part of a small four-way SBS experiment, where the same rum was split across a Spanish, a Danish, a French and an American virgin oak cask – none of them previously used for anything else. With no leftover whisky or bourbon character in the wood, what's left in the glass is the raw interaction between rum and fresh oak, and Spanish oak tends to bring more spice and structure to the table than its American counterpart.

Worthy Park is today one of only two fully Jamaican-owned rum distilleries left on the island, run by the Clarke family since 1918. Everything happens on site – from cutting the cane in the fields to bottling the finished rum – which makes Worthy Park one of the true single-estate rum producers still standing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh oak spice and vanilla arrive first, with the funky, overripe-banana signature of Jamaican rum sitting just behind, along with a faint trace of cellulose.

    Palate

Bold and spicy, with notes of pepper, coconut and lightly scorched sugar, held together by the tannic grip of fresh oak.

    Finish

Long and warming, with a dry, woody edge and a lingering note of dark fruit.

In the Tondo district of Manila once stood the distillery that supplied much of the Philippines with rum made from molasses rather than the traditional nipa palm sap. Añejo simply means "aged" in Spanish, and that's exactly what this bottle delivers — dark rum, rested in wood, in a country where the heat pushes maturation along faster than almost anywhere else on earth.

    Expert Description

La Tondeña Añejo 5 Year Rum is a Philippine rum aged in oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from La Tondeña, founded in 1902 by Chinese immigrant Carlos T. Palanca Sr. in the Tondo district of Manila. The distillery was the first in the Philippines to produce alcohol from molasses instead of the local nipa palm sap, and Añejo Rum became for decades one of the country's most widely sold rum brands. In 2003 the company renamed itself Ginebra San Miguel, and the original La Tondeña labelling disappeared from shelves — this bottle predates that name change.

The rum is a blend of selected, older rum distillates rested in oak casks, giving it the soft, dark style Philippine rum is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet aromas of caramel and brown sugar, with a hint of coconut and a touch of ripe banana in the background.

Santa Maria 1493 isn't a rum with a pedigree or a distillery address. It's a broad, easy-drinking Caribbean rum made for everyday use – not something to geek out over, just something to have on the shelf.

    About Santa Maria 1493

There isn't much distillery history to dig up here, and we won't pretend there is. Santa Maria 1493 is a blended Caribbean Rum, bottled for B&K International – so more of a trade product than a brand with its own production. There are plenty of rums like this around, and that's fine, as long as you know what you're buying.

    Production & style

The rum is barrel aged, which gives it its amber colour and a soft character. It's built to be easy-going – as good in a glass with ice and lime as it is with cola.

    Signature style

Mild and round, with a touch of sweetness and a light hint of oak from the barrel ageing. No sharp edges, no complexity to hunt for – just a straightforward rum you can drink without thinking too hard about it.

    Item no.: 2225916-378774

Deep in the rainforest of Mindanao, where the air hangs thick with cane and wet earth, a distillery most people have never heard of has just bottled its very first release. Rainforest 2024 is that first attempt, aged where it grew.

    Expert's description

Rainforest 2024 Philippines Pure Single Rum is a Philippines Pure Single Rum matured in ex-Chardonnay casks and bottled at 58%.

The rum comes from Rainforest Distillers, founded in 2015 by master distiller Marc Schulze in Bukidnon on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Schulze is also behind Kasa Kaña Rum Agrikultura, and Rainforest 2024 marks the distillery's first bottling in the Habitation Velier range – a genuine world première for a country that barely registers on the rum map yet.

The rum is distilled from the local heirloom cane variety Manpu and fermented for 9 to 11 days with dunder and muck that has itself rested in the tropical Bukidnon biome. After pot still distillation – which earns the rum its Pure Single Rum status under the Gargano Classification – it spent 20 months in ex-Chardonnay casks maturing inside the rainforest itself. The tropical heat and humidity push the Angels' share above 10% a year. No sugar is added, and the rum is bottled at cask strength.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh cane juice meets pineapple, lime and coconut milk, with vanilla and a whisper of camphor emerging as it opens, alongside something close to freshly cut sugarcane.

    Palate

Clean and lively, with a medicinal edge, liquorice and a faintly oily texture that carries the cane character all the way through.

    Finish

Long, dry and citrus-fresh, with traces of pear and pineapple, dressed in floral and herbal notes reminiscent of a lime and basil tart.

  • Velier 12 year old Foursquare 2013 Barbados Pure Single Rum 60%
    Item no.: 2225416-3788

Some bottles are finished when the calendar says so. Others get to wait. Foursquare 2013 is one that waited — ten years longer than anyone expected, in the Barbados heat, where more than half of what went into the cask has long since evaporated up through the wood and out into the tropical air.

    Expert's Description

Foursquare 2013 12 Year is a Barbados Pure Single Rum, distilled 100% in a pot still and bottled at 60%. The story starts in 2015, when Habitation Velier and Foursquare's distiller Richard Seale released the very first Foursquare Pure Single Rum onto the market — just two years old at the time. This bottle is the same project, ten tropical years later. Instead of dumping the casks in 2015, they were left to keep resting, and the result is a rum that has lost more than 60% of its volume to the angels along the way. It is a radically different story from the young 2015 release — more wood, more time, more concentration.

The rum was distilled on Foursquare's double retort pot still, built by Green Engineering and Forsyths, and has spent its entire life in 370-litre ex-cognac casks in Barbados' tropical climate. That is the same philosophy that makes Habitation Velier one of the most respected names in rum: no sugar, no colouring, no dilution. Just time, wood, and an island climate that works faster than any European warehouse ever could.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma is complex and a little wild at the edges — ripe tropical fruit mingles with spice and a touch of something medicinal, almost camphor-like. Underneath sits a deep, woody scent from the cognac casks, along with a faint lactic freshness that keeps the whole thing from turning heavy.

    Palate

On the palate it is intense and spicy, with traces of flowers and a warm, woody core. The cognac casks have given it a slightly tart edge that plays against the fruit.

    Finish

Long and woody, where the medicinal and spicy notes linger, and that same lactic freshness reappears right at the very end.

    Item no.: 22211416-72776

A bottle that still smells faintly of 1970s Miami. Green glass, a label that has seen better decades, and a tagline promising "Enjoyable Always and All Ways" — back when Bacardi sold summer in oversized formats to the American market.

    Expert's Description

Bacardi Superior Silver Label is a Puerto Rican Rum bottled at 40% ABV (80 US Proof), originally sold in the large Half Gallon format used by the American market before the spirits industry switched to metric sizes around 1980.

The rum was distilled and bottled by Bacardi Corp in San Juan, Puerto Rico — the same "Cathedral of Rum" site in Cataño that still produces the majority of Bacardi's output today. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the Bacardi family lost everything they owned in Cuba, and Puerto Rico became the center of production instead. This Silver Label edition, marked "Light-Dry" with a "Built-In Pourer," is a period-accurate example of how Bacardi Superior was marketed in the US before the name was simplified to just "Ron Bacardi Superior" during the 1980s.

The back of the bottle carries the story further: two printed recipes for the Bacardi Daiquiri and the Bacardi Cocktail, which home bartenders of the era could follow straight off the glass. That makes this bottle more than an empty vessel — it's a piece of American cocktail history, from an era when Bacardi essentially defined what a daiquiri was.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Bacardi Superior Silver Label is known for a light, clean aroma with faint notes of almond and a touch of citrus. Note: these reflect the general character of the style — not a tasting assessment of this specific bottle, whose contents and condition are unverified.

    Palate

Dry and straightforward, built to carry a cocktail rather than stand alone — subtle sweetness, a touch of vanilla and a light nuttiness typical of charcoal-filtered white rum from this era.

    Finish

Short and clean with little lingering aftertaste, which historically was the whole point: a rum built for the daiquiri, not for contemplation.

    Item no.: 22211416-72775

Green glass, a fragment of an old paper label, and a bat emblem that has outlasted decades on a shelf. A bottle like this always says more than it tastes — it's the story of a family who had to leave Cuba behind but kept the recipe.

    Expert's Description

Bacardi Superior is a Puerto Rican Rum matured in white oak casks and bottled at 40% ABV.

This particular bottle is an older bottling in the large 175 CL size, often called a "half gallon" in the US, and carries a label design Bacardi no longer uses. The front label displays the brand's historic exhibition medals from Matanzas, Buffalo, Madrid and Paris, while the back label is the later "Silver Label" version with recipes for the Bacardi Cocktail and the Daiquiri — a sign that the bottle dates from a period when Bacardi Imports in Miami handled US distribution.

The rum is made by column-distilling sugarcane molasses, then rests for a minimum of one year in white oak casks before being carried through Bacardi's secret charcoal filtering process, a method the family has used since Don Facundo Bacardí Massó's first experiments in Santiago de Cuba in 1862. The result is a light, dry rum built to blend into a drink rather than dominate it.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma is mild and lightly sweet, with a touch of almond and vanilla. On a bottle this old, the aromas can feel a little muted compared with a fresh bottling — this is a general style description for the category, not a guarantee of how this exact bottle tastes today.

    Palate

Light and clean, with a hint of sugar and dried fruit, without the richness found in darker rums. It's built to carry citrus and mint in a cocktail rather than stand on its own.

    Finish

Short and dry, with a faint warmth. Again, this describes the style in general — long-term storage may have changed both the strength and nuance of this specific bottle.

  • Bacardi Superior Carta Blanca Duty Free Vintage 1960s Rum 75 cl 40%
    Item no.: 22211416-72774

Some bottles just sit in a cabinet. Others have travelled through duty free counters while the world looked very different. This Bacardi Superior Carta Blanca belongs to the second kind – stamped "For Duty Free Trade Only" and most likely bottled in Nassau, Bahamas, sometime in the 1960s, in the years right after the Bacardi family had to leave Cuba behind.

    Expert's Description

Bacardi Superior Carta Blanca is a White Rum bottled by Bacardi & Co., Ltd. in Nassau, Bahamas, and this particular bottle carries the "For Duty Free Trade Only" stamp – meaning it was produced as an export edition intended for duty-free sale, typically in airports and on ferries.

The story behind this bottle reaches further back than the bottling date itself. Bacardi was founded in 1862 in Santiago de Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, and it was there the bat first became the house symbol. When Fidel Castro's government nationalised Bacardi's Cuban assets in 1960, the family moved production abroad – among other places to Nassau, Bahamas, where a new base for the international business took shape. Bottles like this one, stamped Bacardi & Co. Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas, and distributed by Bacardi International Ltd. in Hamilton, Bermuda, are a tangible piece of that transition period.

The label shows wear and some soiling, which is entirely normal for a bottle of this age – but the bottle appears sealed with a high liquid level, suggesting limited evaporation over the decades.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Classic Bacardi Superior of this era was known for a light, clean aroma with faint vanilla and a hint of sugarcane sweetness – though for a bottle this old, we can't guarantee the aroma today still matches the original profile.

    Palate

The style was originally dry and rounded, with a touch of almond and a soft, near-neutral character that made the rum a favourite in cocktails like the Daiquiri and Cuba Libre.

    Finish

Short and clean in its youth, though after sixty-odd years in the bottle, colour, clarity and taste may all have shifted – something that can't be guaranteed for a bottle in this condition.

When Bacardi's Cuban factories were nationalised in 1960, it was the family's foresight in registering the "Bacardi" trademark internationally outside Cuba that saved the name – it was the seized factories that were later forced to sell their rum under an entirely different name.

  • Opthimus 15 Year barricas de Malt Whisky Finish Dominican Republic Rum 43%
    Item no.: 22265421-15

There is something stubborn about doing things the wrong way round. The world is full of whisky that has been allowed to rest in used rum casks. Here it is the rum that has taken the trip the other way and settled into a cask that once held Scotch malt whisky. The nose is Caribbean. The tail is a touch Highland.

    Expert description

Opthimus 15 Year barricas de Malt Whisky Finish is a Dominican Rum from Oliver & Oliver, matured by the solera method in ex-bourbon casks and finished in Scotch Single Malt Whisky casks before bottling at 43%.

Oliver & Oliver is based in Santo Domingo, but the family's story begins in Cuba, where Juanillo Oliver built his first rum production in the late 1800s. When the family resumed the work in the 1990s, it happened from the Dominican Republic. The house distils and blends rum from molasses on column stills and supplements with distillates from, among other places, Panama, Trinidad, Colombia and Nicaragua. That exact blend is the house's signature, and what precisely goes into any given bottle they keep close to the chest.

Maturation happens by the solera principle, the same system the sherry houses of Andalusia use. The casks stand in tiers, and rum is always drawn from the lowest and oldest row, which is then topped up from the row above. The number 15 on the label refers to the oldest rum in the system, not every drop in the bottle. That gives a rum with both youthful fruit and the deep, concentrated tone that only time in cask can deliver.

After the solera maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the rum moves onto casks that previously held Scotch Single Malt Whisky. This is where the bottle sets itself apart. The whisky cask lays a dryness over the Spanish-style sweetness, brings the spice forward and gives the finish an edge the Opthimus range is not otherwise known for. This bottling is from 2018 and made in a limited, numbered series of 3,000 bottles.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and light honey first, then dried fruit and cask oak. Behind it lies cinnamon, sandalwood and a dry, almost malty tone that does not belong in a typical Dominican rum.

    Palate

Full-bodied and soft with clear toffee and vanilla sweetness. Then the whisky cask enters from the side with pepper, roasted nuts and a dryness that keeps the sweetness in check. The oak is present throughout without becoming dominant.

    Finish

Long and warm. The dryness from the malt cask lingers alongside pepper and a last trace of syrupy sweetness.

  • Rum Nation Guatemala XO 20th Anniversary Limited Release Rum 40%
    Item no.: 22227418-18555

At Río Hondo in north-eastern Guatemala the heat stands still between the warehouse buildings. The casks work fast here, because the tropical climate has no patience. The rest of the story takes place in a cool Italian warehouse, where the pace slows almost to a standstill.

    Expert description

Rum Nation Guatemala XO 20th Anniversary Limited Release is a Guatemalan Rum aged in ex-bourbon casks of American white oak, further matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and bottled at 40%.

The bottle is Rum Nation's anniversary release, made to mark the house's first 20 years. Rum Nation was founded in Italy in 1999 by Fabio Rossi and does not distil itself. The house buys, selects and matures. For this release the choice fell on some of the sweetest casks from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala.

The raw material is cane molasses, and the distillate comes from column stills. That gives the clean, elegant style known from Guatemalan rum. Maturation happens in two stages. First at least four years in ex-bourbon casks at Río Hondo, around 185 metres above sea level, where the heat pulls colour and spice out of the oak at a pace no European cellar can match. Then 16 months in used Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks in a cool Italian warehouse. It is the second round that lays raisin, date and a wine-like sweetness on top of the base structure.

The rum is bottled in a decanter with a gold-coloured stopper and delivered in a gift box. The series is a Limited Release.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Honey and molasses first, then ripe dates and raisins. Behind that lies vanilla and dark chocolate, with a touch of toasted nuts.

    Palate

Full-bodied and almost creamy. Honey, raisin, date and prune, vanilla throughout, and a candied orange note that keeps the sweetness from turning flat.

    Finish

Long and soft. Sherry, aniseed and liquorice, with the chocolate sitting underneath.

    Item no.: 22278-83337

Ripe mango from the Caribbean meets seven-year-old Dominican rum. A tropical shortcut to sunset - sweet, full-bodied and with the rum's warmth underneath.

Expert description of Espero Caribbean Mango Rum Liqueur 70 cl 40%

Espero Caribbean Mango is the newest addition to the Ron Espero family, a series of rum-based liqueurs from Albert Michler Distillery in Bristol, England, which acts as an independent bottler of Dominican rum. The base is a rum from the Dominican Republic, aged seven years using the solera method, where younger and older rum are continuously blended to create a smooth, rounded base with notes of vanilla and caramel.

On top of the rum, Michler adds a maceration of Caribbean mango. The fruit is left to infuse in the rum, so the fresh, juicy mango aroma melds with the rum's depth. The result is a liqueur at 40% - strong enough to hold onto the rum's character, but with the fruit's sweetness and lightness up front. It launched in 2026 as a sister release to, among others, Espero Caribbean Banana.

The name Espero means "I hope" in Spanish, and the series is built around the idea of a spirit of adventure and Caribbean joie de vivre rather than stiff tradition.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Tropical and direct. Ripe mango fills the glass first, followed by a warm rum sweetness with vanilla and a touch of caramel.

    Palate

Full-bodied and creamy on the palate. The mango steps forward even more clearly, juicy and sweet, while the rum base gives depth with subtle notes of wood and molasses that ground the fruit.

    Expert Description

Tanduay Sauternes Cask Finished is a Filipino Rum, finished in Sauternes casks, bottled at 42%.

The rum is produced by Tanduay Distillers in the Philippines, a distillery with roots dating back to 1854 and today one of the world's largest rum producers. The casks add an extra layer of fruit sweetness and complexity to the rum.

    Item no.: 222395-1013

From the Guatemalan highlands, where rum matures in the thin air above the clouds, comes Ron Zacapa XO, one of the most celebrated names in Solera rum.

    Expert Description

Ron Zacapa XO is a Guatemala Rum aged via the Sistema Solera and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala and selected among reserve rums aged between 10 and 25 years in the Solera system. The rums first mature in casks that previously held American whiskey, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine, after which the blend is further aged in French oak casks that previously held cognac. Guatemala's high elevation, where the rum is aged above 2,300 metres above sea level, gives a slower maturation process and closer contact between rum and wood.

The result is a complex, full-bodied rum, where burnt caramel and toasted nuts meet a long finish of dark chocolate and spice.
