History & Background

Applejack from Laird & Company traces its roots to 1698 and ranks among the oldest continuously produced spirits brands in the US. In the 1820s, the American legend John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, preached along the Ohio River Valley and handed out apple seeds while instructing his followers in making Applejack. The spirit became a staple of early American punches and drinks, including the potent 'stone wall', and during the 1840 presidential campaign, cider flowed so freely at political rallies that candidate William Henry Harrison earned the nickname the 'Hard Cider candidate'. The Laird family has kept the tradition alive across nine generations, making Applejack one of the few American spirits brands able to document its history all the way back to colonial times.
