About Poetic License

Poetic License is an independent small batch distillery located in Roker, Sunderland, on England's north-east coast, active since 2015. For newcomers it's an accessible introduction to modern British craft gin; for connoisseurs it's interesting that the distillery holds firm to traditional pot distilling while the team deliberately explores and reimagines the classic gin category through a wide range of flavour variants.

History & Background

Poetic License was established in 2015 in Sunderland, a city not otherwise known as a hub for gin production, which in itself helped give the distillery a distinct identity from the start. The team behind it chose to stick with traditional pot distilling as their production method, but combined the classic technique with a playful, experimental approach to flavour and botanicals. Since launching, the distillery has built a broad range of gins and gin liqueurs, all carrying the same playful spirit forward.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and a creative composition of botanicals, breaking somewhat from the classic London Dry style.
