  • Penderyn gift pack with three Single Malt Welsh Whisky miniatures
    Item no.: 22227865397-20

Sometimes the hard part isn't choosing a bottle — it's choosing just one. Penderyn's gift pack sidesteps that problem entirely: three miniatures, three very different sides of the same Welsh distillery.

    Expert description

The Penderyn Gift Pack contains three 5cl miniatures, bottled at 46%, offering a quick tour of Penderyn's range: Madeira, Peated and Sherrywood. All three are Single Malt Welsh Whisky from the same distillery in the Brecon Beacons, distilled on the house's signature Faraday still, but each matured in a different type of cask.

The Madeira expression brings creamy toffee, raisins and a finish of tropical fruit. Peated delivers sweet smoke, vanilla and green apple, while Sherrywood leans heavier with dark fruit, toffee, hazelnut and sultana. The pack is built as a tasting journey rather than a single experience — ideal if you want to explore Penderyn before committing to a full bottle of your favourite.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The three miniatures span from Madeira's creamy toffee and raisins, through Peated's sweet smoke and green apple, to Sherrywood's deep, dark fruit.

    Palate

On the palate the pack shows Penderyn's full range: light, sweet Madeira character, round, smoky complexity in Peated, and full sherry weight in Sherrywood.

    Finish

The finish varies bottle to bottle — tropical fruit from Madeira, gentle smoke from Peated, and hazelnut and sultana from Sherrywood.

Penderyn distils all of its whisky on exactly the same single still, whichever cask it later matures in — so every difference between the three miniatures in this pack comes entirely from the wood, not the distillation itself.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales Yma O Hyd bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 2227865479-1106-197280322-138

A protest song from 1981 became the national football team's anthem, and eventually the name of a whisky. It isn't often a bottle carries this much national pride inside it.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 10 Yma O Hyd is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky matured in American rye casks and bottled at 43%. The name is taken from Dafydd Iwan's iconic Welsh-language protest song 'Yma O Hyd' from 1981, a tribute to the survival of the Welsh language and culture, since adopted as the anthem of the national football team's supporters, known as 'The Red Wall'.

The bottle launched in 2022 as the official whisky partnership with the Football Association of Wales, tied to Wales's World Cup campaign that year. The rye casks give the whisky a spiced, peppery edge that sets it apart from most of Penderyn's other releases, where bourbon, sherry and port casks tend to dominate.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is floral with baking spice, caramel and the scent of baked apple and pear.

    Palate

The palate offers sweet caramel and sultana, spiced with cinnamon-apple, pepper and a touch of ginger and clove from the rye casks.

    Finish

The finish is caramel-sweet with a herbal, peppery close that lingers.

    Did you know?

'Yma O Hyd' means 'still here' in Welsh, and the song has served since 1981 as a defiant reminder that the Welsh language is still alive — a line sung today just as loudly on football terraces as at folk concerts.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales Bad Wolf bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 222397-2243433

For two decades, Cardiff has been the place where time travel and adventure get filmed. Now the city's best-known production company has its own whisky — ten years old, matured in port pipes that have seen a lifetime of history themselves.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 13 Bad Wolf 10 Years is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky fully matured in tawny port casks and bottled at 46%. The bottle marks the 10th anniversary of Bad Wolf Studios, the Cardiff-based production company behind series such as Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Merlin and His Dark Materials, and it was released alongside Penderyn's own 25th anniversary in 2025.

The port pipes the whisky has matured in are around 60 years old and previously held port for decades, giving it a deep, full-bodied character. It's one of the more mature releases in the Icons of Wales series, where both the age and the cask choice set it apart from its younger, fresher siblings in the range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers orange blossom and rose petal, alongside fruitcake, raisins and fig jam, with a touch of red berries.

    Palate

The palate is deep with stewed dark fruit and toffee, marzipan and a bittersweet orange marmalade that builds on the fruitcake character from the nose.

    Finish

The finish lands on dried apricot, salted caramel and a warm nutmeg spice that lingers.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales The Village bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 222397-2243434

There's a village in Wales that looks like no other village in Wales — built by an eccentric architect as a postcard from Italy, planted right on the Welsh coast. A hundred years after it was born, Penderyn has given it its own bottle.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 14 The Village is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky finished in Amarone casks and bottled at 46%. The bottle honours Portmeirion, the Italian-inspired village on the North Wales coast, designed by architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and founded in 1926 — and The Village launched in 2026 to mark the village's 100th anniversary, unveiled at a tasting held in Portmeirion itself.

The Amarone casks, Italian red wine from the Veneto region, are a deliberate nod to Portmeirion's own Italian inspiration. They lend the whisky a sweetly fruity, spiced character that layers over Penderyn's clean, light spirit from the Faraday still.

Portmeirion is perhaps best known as the filming location for the cult British TV series The Prisoner in the 1960s, and its status as one of Wales's most photographed places makes it a natural centrepiece for the Icons of Wales series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers ripe fruit, spiced oak, vanilla, cocoa and honey in a dense, sweet layer.

    Palate

The palate is rich with red berries and ripe plums, spice, honeyed sweetness and a touch of florals.

    Finish

The finish is long, with candied fruit, spiced oak and a light tannin from the wine casks.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales The Headliner bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-22434

The only Welshman ever to become British Prime Minister accidentally laid the foundations for modern whisky. That story deserves its own bottle — and now it has one.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 9 The Headliner is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky matured in Jamaican rum casks and ruby port casks, bottled at 46%. The bottle honours David Lloyd George (1863-1945), the only Welshman to serve as British Prime Minister, and the wartime chancellor who introduced the Immature Spirits Act of 1915 — a law requiring at least three years of cask ageing for spirits, which unintentionally laid the groundwork for the entire modern premium whisky industry.

The combination of rum and port casks gives the whisky a full, fruity character that builds on Penderyn's clean spirit from the Faraday still. The Headliner is one of the more storytelling-driven bottles in the Icons of Wales series, where the tale of the law — and the man behind it — is as much part of the experience as the flavour itself.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers red berries, strawberries and cream and cranberry, alongside light oak, vanilla and a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon.

    Palate

The palate is full of dried fruit and salted caramel, spiced with floral honey, black pepper and a dry, firm tannin from the casks.

    Finish

The finish opens sweet and drifts gradually toward a dry, fruity close, with the spice lingering longest.

  • Penderyn Icons of Wales Copperopolis bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-222-3

Swansea once smelled of copper smoke. For over two hundred years, half the world's copper was smelted right here, and Penderyn has now poured that legacy into a bottle, distilled inside the old copperworks' own powerhouse.

    Expert description

Penderyn Icons of Wales No. 12 Copperopolis is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky finished in sweet red wine casks and bottled at 46%. The name Copperopolis was Swansea's nickname from around 1720, when the town accounted for roughly half of the world's copper smelting and around 90% of Britain's — and Penderyn's Swansea distillery sits inside the former Copperworks Powerhouse, right in the middle of that history.

The red wine casks add a sweet, fruity layer on top of Penderyn's clean, light spirit from the Faraday still. The result ties Welsh industrial history to modern craft — equal parts tribute to the past and proof that the distillery can still surprise you.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers orange blossom, peach and cherry, backed by vanilla, honey and a touch of dried fruit and spice.

    Palate

The palate is rich with caramel and honey, raisins, figs and a peppering of oak spice, driven by the sweetness of the red wine casks.

    Finish

The finish dries gradually toward oak, citrus and a light cocoa note that ties the whole sip together.

Some whiskies try hard to impress you. Penderyn Myth doesn't bother — it's sweet, light and a little flirtatious, like a summer afternoon in the Brecon Beacons when the sun still has warmth but the shadows have started to stretch.

    Expert description

Penderyn Myth is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and rejuvenated oak casks and bottled at 40%. The name draws on Y Ddraig Goch, the red dragon on the Welsh flag, and the myths that surround it — and the whisky itself is just as fable-like in character: sweet, fruity and surprisingly light on its feet.

It belongs to Penderyn's Dragon range, relaunched in new packaging in 2021, and it's distilled on the same single Faraday still that sets Penderyn apart from most of the world's distilleries — a column still designed by a relative of the physicist Michael Faraday. The result is a spirit of unusual purity that leaves the casks plenty of room to do their work.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose weaves together citrus fruit and apple, with pear drops and the merest hint of tropical fruit before it fades again.

    Palate

The palate opens sweet before a refreshing bitterness takes over, while the mixed fruit carries through the whole sip — more pineapple and ripe apple than sharp citrus.

    Finish

The finish is short and light by design: a memory of a lively, easy-drinking whisky you'll want to come back to.

  • Penderyn Peated Single Malt Welsh Whisky bottle from Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-224

Most people assume a smoky whisky needs peated malt. Penderyn proves otherwise — here, the smoke comes entirely from the casks, in a limited annual release that still tastes more of Wales than of Islay.

    Expert description

Penderyn Peated is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in ex-peated Scotch whisky casks, bottled at 46%. It's a limited annual release of around 5,000 bottles, part of Penderyn's Gold range, and one of the clearest examples of how a cask alone can lend an unpeated new-make spirit a full smoky character.

Because Penderyn distils on a single Faraday still, the spirit comes off unusually clean and light — which gives the casks, here previously used for peated Scotch, more room to leave their mark than in many other whiskies. The result is a sweet, aromatic smoke layered over a fundamentally fruity, light-bodied spirit.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose greets you with sweet, aromatic smoke, quickly followed by vanilla, green apple and a hint of citrus.

    Palate

The palate is a gentle but persistent interplay of smoke and sweetness, with a range of soft flavours teasing through without ever overpowering each other.

    Finish

The finish is medium in length, with smoke and vanilla lingering long after the glass is empty.

    Item no.: 059763-615-518

Some casks only add colour. Others add character. Penderyn Portwood belongs firmly to the second group — a whisky that has spent its time resting in old port casks until it tastes of something deeper than where it started.

    Expert description

Penderyn Portwood is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky matured in port casks and bottled at 46%. It belongs to Penderyn's Gold range, which received a new bottle and label design in 2021, and it's long been a favourite among French drinkers, where the port-cask style sits naturally alongside the country's own wine culture.

The casks give the whisky its weight: dried fruit, dark chocolate and toasted oak on the nose, and a creamy, honeyed palate that builds on Penderyn's clean, light spirit from the single Faraday still. Portwood has picked up gold at the World Whisky Masters on several occasions and gold at the IWSC, which says something about how well the spirit and the wood work together here.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers dried fruit, dark chocolate and cranberry, tied together by a toasted, almost crisp oak note.

    Palate

The palate is creamy and round, with honey and spice, and the port casks come through clearly without ever overpowering the spirit.

    Finish

The finish lands softly on oak and honey and lingers, warmer than sweet.

    Item no.: 22227865397-260

The Vikings called it exactly that — a giant serpent lurking off the coast at Llandudno. Now that same coastline has its own distillery, and its first bottle carries the name of the beast sailors once feared.

    Expert description

Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky made with peated malt and bottled at 46%, distilled at Penderyn's new site in Llandudno, North Wales — the first place in around 125 years where peated whisky has been distilled in Wales. The name comes from the Great Orme, a limestone headland at Llandudno whose name derives from the Old Norse word for 'great serpent,' a nod to the Viking sailors who once feared its steep cliffs.

The first release is limited to around 6,000 bottles, some of which sold directly online at launch in 2025. Where Penderyn's Gold range draws its smoke entirely from the casks, Serpents Tears is different: here the smoke comes from the peated malt itself, making it something new within Penderyn's otherwise light, cask-driven range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers dried leaves, ripe orchard fruit and a note of smoke, backed by toasted bread.

    Palate

The palate combines sweet peat with creamy vanilla and baked apple, spiced with pepper and a touch of clove.

    Finish

The finish is warm and softly smoky, with a barley sweetness that lingers.
