Hibiki Whisky

Hibiki was launched by Suntory in 1989 to celebrate the company's 90th anniversary, and the name simply means 'harmony' in Japanese. The iconic 24-facet bottle symbolises Japan's 24 micro-seasons in the traditional calendar, each facet catching the light differently. It's a blended whisky that became famous well beyond whisky circles, not least after its appearance in the film 'Lost in Translation'.

  • Hibiki Harmony bottle with faceted 24-sided glass design
    Item no.: 22227865403-327

The bottle's 24 facets symbolise Japan's 24 traditional micro-seasons - a detail that says almost as much about Hibiki as the whisky itself.

    Expert Description

Hibiki Harmony is a Blended Whisky from Japan, bottled at 43%.

Hibiki means "harmony" or "resonance" in Japanese, and the Harmony expression combines malt and grain whisky from Suntory's three distilleries - Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita - including whisky matured in Japanese mizunara oak. The result is a soft, floral, gently sweet style that has become Hibiki's best-known release internationally.

About Hibiki

Hibiki is Suntory's prestige blended whisky, launched in 1989 and known for its 24-facet bottle. For a newcomer, it's a gentle, aromatic, elegant introduction to Japanese whisky; for the connoisseur, Hibiki is interesting because, as a blend, it requires an entire team of master blenders to balance malt and grain components from multiple distilleries - a complexity often overlooked when comparing blends to single malts.

History & Background

Hibiki is Suntory's prestige blended whisky range, first launched in 1989 to mark the group's 90th anniversary. The name means "resonance" or "echo" in Japanese, expressing the philosophy of harmony between the many different malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's own distilleries, including Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita, composed together by the master blender.
