Miguels Port Wine

On the steep terraces of the Douro Valley, where grapes often must be harvested by hand, sits a smaller, family-owned port house prioritising quality over volume. Miguels Port is an invitation to taste the Douro Valley the way the family itself experiences it. This is port without the filter of the big trading houses in between.

About Miguel's

Miguels Port comes from a smaller, family-owned wine house in the Douro Valley, a region known for its steep, terraced vineyards along the Douro river. For the newcomer it's an accessible entry into authentic port production, without the big commercial trading houses as intermediaries; for the curious wine lover, the family-run scale is interesting because it allows for a more personal, terroir-close approach to port-making than the large, industrial producers.

History & Background

The Douro Valley has produced port since the 1700s, when the steep, terraced vineyards along the river were built specifically for grape growing in one of the world's most demanding wine landscapes. Many of the valley's smaller wine houses, including family-run estates like the one behind Miguels Port, have historically sold their grapes or finished wine on to the big trading houses in Vila Nova de Gaia. In recent decades, several of these smaller producers have chosen to bottle their own port, a development that has given consumers access to more individual, terroir-driven expressions of the Douro Valley's port tradition.

Production & Style

The grapes are grown on terraces in the Douro Valley and processed by traditional method, where fermentation is stopped with grape spirit. Maturation takes place in oak casks before bottling.

Fruity, Round, Straightforward
