  • Bottle of Austrian white wine from Weingut Hagn with pale label
    Item no.: 22206-50299

For more than 300 years, the Hagn family has grown grapes in Weinviertel, Austria's northernmost wine region. Grüner Veltliner Classic is the essence of the place - fresh, elegant and carrying the characteristic pepper note that has made the grape the country's signature.

    Expert's Description

Grüner Veltliner Classic is a White Wine from Weinviertel in Austria made from the Grüner Veltliner grape, bottled at 12.5% ABV.

Weingut Hagn destems the grapes and macerates them for four hours on the skins to bring out aroma and structure, after which the wine matures for three months in steel tanks - preserving purity, freshness and crisp acidity. With residual sugar of 3.2 g/l and acidity of 5.6 g/l, the wine is dry, fresh and well balanced. Alongside Grüner Veltliner, the family also grows Riesling, Gelber Muskateller and Zweigelt, all farmed with the same respect for the terroir.

  • Bottle of Danish red wine from Årø Vingård with dark red label
    Item no.: 059666-96322

Out in the Lillebælt strait, where the current splits Haderslev Fjord from Assens, lies Årø – 600 hectares of Danish island life, with fewer than 200 year-round residents, apple trees and salt air. This is where the grapes for this red wine grow, and 2018 was one of the years the Danish summer truly delivered.

    Expert's Description

Årø Vingård Rødvin 2018 is a Red Wine from Årø in Denmark made from Léon Millot, Rondo and Regent grapes, bottled at 12% ABV.

The vineyard was founded in 2004 by Svend Aage, who planted the first 125 vines after visiting a winegrower in Christiansfeld. By 2007 it had grown to 2,200 vines, and bottles went on sale from 2008. Today it's Jakob and Lisbeth Leij who run the place – they took over just before the 2015 harvest and have since expanded to 5,600 vines, alongside 1,200 apple trees. Léon Millot, Rondo and Regent are hybrid varieties bred to cope with the Danish climate, and together they produce a red wine with more colour and body than you might expect this far north. 2018 was a warm vintage in Denmark, and the wine's ripeness shows it.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Blackcurrant and blueberry lead the way, with a touch of cherry stone and a faint, toasted note from the subtle oak influence.

    Palate

Light yet surprisingly full-bodied – the berry character carries through, the tannins are soft and well judged, giving a pleasant structure without ever feeling heavy.

    Finish

Clean and fruity, with a calm trail of dark berries and a discreet hint of oak.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Serve at 16-18°C in a standard red wine glass – no decanting needed. It pairs well with lighter grilled dishes, poultry and veal, but also works nicely on its own after dinner. Drink it now for the fruit-forward style, or give it 1-3 years and it opens up a little further.

Ribera del Duero sits high and dry on the Castilian plateau, where wide swings between day and night temperatures push the grapes to build colour and flavour deep into the skin.

    Expert's Description

Tinta del País is the local clone of Tempranillo, grown here on the plateau's lean soils and ripening slowly thanks to the cool night-time temperatures. • Bottle of Banyuls Rimage dessert wine from Maison Parcé Frères
    Item no.: 2222752-56

On the steep, schist-covered slopes at Banyuls, no machine can reach - every single grape for this wine is hand-harvested, with a view of the Mediterranean.

    Expert's Description

Banyuls Rimage from Maison Parcé Frères, Domaine Augustin, is a Dessert Wine from southern France made from Grenache Noir, bottled at 16.5% ABV.

The grapes come from steep, schist-rich vineyards that cannot be mechanised, where the grapes are grown at varied elevations from 10 to 350 metres above sea level with a northeasterly exposure. The wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks followed by mutage sur grains - the addition of wine spirit during the still-ongoing maceration. Five weeks of extraction with daily pumping-over ensures maximum aroma and structure from the grape skins, and the wine is bottled early to preserve freshness and fruit intensity.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense aroma of small red fruits, black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry jam.

    Palate

Generous and full, tannic and juicy.

20 years in oak under open sky gives this Rivesaltes a rancio character no young wine can imitate - only time itself can build that kind of depth.

    Expert's Description

Rivesaltes Ambré 20 Years from Sélection Parcé Frères is a Dessert Wine from southern France made from Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc and Macabeu, bottled at 16% ABV.

The vines are old, grown in schist-rich soil near the town of Rivesaltes, planted densely and mixed across several grape varieties within the same plot. The wine has aged for a minimum of 20 years in oak casks under oxidative conditions, giving it a pronounced rancio character - a nutty, deep and lightly oxidised profile that only emerges through long ageing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

  • Magnum bottle of Champagne from Château de l'Auche with golden label
    Item no.: 059763-615-256-2

The same Sélection as the house's 75 cl bottle - but in magnum format, where the Champagne matures more slowly and gently. The larger volume relative to the cork means less oxygen exposure over time, and many find the wine simply stays fresher for longer at this size.

    Expert's Description

Ch. de l'Auche Sélection Brut Magnum is a Sparkling Wine from Champagne, France made from 85% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir, bottled at 12% ABV.

The cuvée is the same as the standard bottle - around 60% of the current vintage supplemented with reserve wines from previous years - but in magnum the Champagne matures more slowly in the cellar. That often results in an even more rounded, integrated wine once it's finally disgorged. The magnum format is also a natural choice when several guests are sharing a bottle at the table.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Open and aromatic, with generous aromas of pear and apricot.

    Palate

Full and round, with a dimension that feels a touch more integrated than in the standard bottle.

    Finish

Complex and long, with an interplay of fresh and mature tones.

    Serving & Food Pairing

    Expert's Description

Paniza 2023 La Fea Tinto is a Red Wine from Cariñena, Spain made from a blend of Syrah, Tempranillo and Garnacha, bottled at 14% ABV.

The name "La Fea" means "the ugly one" in Spanish - an affectionate jab referring to the grape's rough, unmistakable character rather than a polished, pretty surface. Cariñena is one of Spain's oldest wine regions, and its high elevation gives the grapes wide temperature swings, resulting in intense fruit and good acidity.
