The whisky comes from Eigashima Shuzo, known under the White Oak whisky brand, which in 1919 became the first Japanese distillery to be licensed to make whisky - years before both Yamazaki and Yoichi. Meisei, meaning "fame" in Japanese, matures across a combination of bourbon, shochu and virgin oak casks.

History & Background

In 1984 the distillery received one of Japan's very first licences for whisky production after Suntory and Nikka, but is a fraction of the two giants in scale, making Akashi a rarer find outside Japan.
