Kamiki Whisky
Kamiki WhiskyThe production of Kamiki Whisky is safeguarded by the Omiwa temple priests from Nara, Japan's first capital. Omiwa is one of the oldest existing shrines in Japan, over 1,000 years old, and has protected local alcohol producers since its inception.Nara is densely covered with Yoshino Sugi forests (Japanese cedar). Yoshino Sugi is used in temple construction, burned in temples to calm the mind, and for aging local spirits. Kamiki is initially aged for 3 years in oak barrels, and then, using a unique technique, aged in non-charred, local Yoshino Sugi casks to develop the perfect rounded flavor, with a hint of sandalwood and a touch of green tea in the finish. This secondary aging makes Kamiki: “THE FIRST WHISKY IN THE WORLD WITH JAPANESE CEDAR CASK FINISH”! The name Kamiki is inspired by Mount Miwa, meaning “God’s Mountain,” which is protected by the Omiwa temple priests. KAMI means “god” and IKI means “breath,” with the name inspired by the beautiful breezes from Miwa. |
