    Did You Know?

Manzanilla can only be called Manzanilla if it is aged in Sanlúcar de Barrameda - the same wine aged in Jerez or El Puerto de Santa María is instead called Fino, even though the grape and process are the same.

  • Bottle of Lustau Almacenista Manzanilla sherry
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278445

Almacenista means stockholder - a small producer who ages sherry in their own casks without exporting it themselves. Lustau's Almacenista range rescues these hidden gems from obscurity and bottles them under its own name.

    Expert's Description

Lustau Almacenista Manzanilla is a Manzanilla Sherry from Jerez, Spain, made from the Palomino Fino grape with an alcohol content of 17%. Manzanilla is a biologically aged sherry style produced exclusively in the coastal town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, where the humid sea climate encourages a thick flor yeast film on the wine's surface during ageing. This flor protects the wine from oxygen and gives Manzanilla its characteristic sharp, saline freshness. Lustau's Almacenista programme, launched in 1981, aims to rescue and bottle unique wines from small, family-run stockholders.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sharp and saline on the nose, with notes of almonds and yeasty bread.

    Palate

Dry and fresh on the palate with a lovely elegance and lightness.

    Finish

The finish is short and clean, with a last salty hint.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Serve chilled at 7-9°C in a small sherry glass. Enjoy as an aperitif or with tapas and olives.

    Did You Know?

Manzanilla can only be produced in Sanlucar de Barrameda - move the wine just a few kilometres away, and it loses its classification, because the flor yeast that creates the style only thrives in that specific place.

  • Bottle of Manzanilla sherry from Lustau with pale label
    Item no.: 2222-55790

Sanlúcar de Barrameda sits where the river Guadalquivir meets the Atlantic, and the humid sea air gives the flor layer here particularly good conditions. The result is Manzanilla - Fino's saltier, more floral cousin.

    Expert's Description

Lustau Manzanilla En Rama Sanlúcar 2024 Spring Release is a Sherry from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain made from the Palomino grape, bottled at 15% ABV.

Manzanilla is a Fino matured specifically in the coastal town of Sanlúcar, where the high humidity from the Atlantic makes the flor layer grow especially thick. That gives a more delicate, saline style than Fino from Jerez. As part of Lustau's annual En Rama series, this sherry is bottled straight from the cask without fining or filtration, when the flor layer is at its thickest in spring.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Delicate and floral, with notes of salted almonds and camomile.

    Palate

Light and saline, with a fresh, almost sea-air character.

    Finish

Short and clean, with a touch of salt lingering.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Serve well chilled at 7-9°C in a sherry glass. Manzanilla is made for shellfish, especially prawns and oysters, as well as tapas and salted almonds.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278449

Papirusa is Lustau's entry ticket to the Manzanilla style - a super-dry, light sherry that proves Sanlucar's sea climate and flor yeast do more for a wine than most other factors combined.

    Expert's Description

Lustau Manzanilla Papirusa is a Manzanilla Sherry from Jerez, Spain, made from the Palomino Fino grape with an alcohol content of 15%. Manzanilla is aged exclusively in Sanlucar de Barrameda under a protective flor yeast film, which prevents oxidation and gives the wine its sharp, salt-tinged character. Papirusa is Bodegas Lustau's entry-level Manzanilla, designed as an accessible introduction to the style without compromising on the authenticity that defines a genuine Sanlucar sherry.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Lovely sherry notes of almonds and yeasty bread on the nose.

    Palate

Super-dry, light and fresh on the palate.

    Finish

    Did You Know?

Manzanilla's lower alcohol content compared to other sherry styles is precisely due to the protective flor, which allows the wine to age without needing the same degree of added alcohol required to prevent oxidation.
