Sanlúcar de Barrameda sits where the river Guadalquivir meets the Atlantic, and the humid sea air gives the flor layer here particularly good conditions. The result is Manzanilla - Fino's saltier, more floral cousin.

    Expert's Description

Lustau Manzanilla En Rama Sanlúcar 2024 Spring Release is a Sherry from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain made from the Palomino grape, bottled at 15% ABV.

Manzanilla is a Fino matured specifically in the coastal town of Sanlúcar, where the high humidity from the Atlantic makes the flor layer grow especially thick. That gives a more delicate, saline style than Fino from Jerez. As part of Lustau's annual En Rama series, this sherry is bottled straight from the cask without fining or filtration, when the flor layer is at its thickest in spring.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Delicate and floral, with notes of salted almonds and camomile.

    Finish

Short and clean, with a touch of salt lingering.

    Serving & Food Pairing

Manzanilla can only be called that if it's matured in Sanlúcar de Barrameda - move the exact same casks to Jerez and the wine changes character and has to be called something else.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lustau Manzanilla En Rama Sanlúcar 2024

What's the difference between Manzanilla and Fino?

Both are the same grape matured under flor, but Manzanilla is aged in Sanlúcar, where the sea air gives a more delicate, saline style.

What does the sherry taste like?

Salted almonds and camomile on the nose, with a light, saline palate.

What temperature should the sherry be served at?

7-9°C, ideally in a sherry glass.

What food goes well with this sherry?

Shellfish, especially prawns and oysters, as well as tapas and salted almonds.

    What does En Rama mean?

That the sherry is bottled straight from the cask, without fining or filtration.

    Why only in Sanlúcar?

The town's humid, cool Atlantic climate gives the flor yeast particularly good conditions that can't be recreated elsewhere.
