About Vecchio Florio

Vecchio Florio is an Italian house from Sicily, one of the most historic producers of Marsala wine. For the newcomer, Marsala is an overlooked category deserving more attention than just being a cooking wine. For the collector, Vecchio Florio matters because the Florio family historically helped turn Marsala into an international success on par with port and sherry, before the category lost ground in the 20th century.

History & Background

The house was founded in 1832 by the Florio family, who in the 1800s built an entire trading empire around Marsala wine, exporting to courts and cargo holds across Europe. The Florio name helped shape the wine's international reputation, before the house later became part of larger spirits and wine conglomerates.

Production & Style

The wine is made mainly from the Grillo grape variety and fortified, following the classic Marsala method from Sicily.
