The legendary French winemaker Robert Drouhin visited the US for the first time in 1961, and after repeated visits and tastings he became convinced there were opportunities, major opportunities, in the country for an experienced Burgundy producer. For newcomers, Domaine Drouhin is an accessible entry point into American Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Burgundian style, while collectors value that one of Burgundy's finest houses has lent its name and expertise to an Oregon project, giving the wines a rare crossing of French tradition and New World clarity.

History & Background

Domaine Drouhin was founded in 1987 in the Willamette Valley, after decades of consideration and repeated trips to Oregon. Robert Drouhin brought both capital and expertise from the start, the latter in the form of his daughter Véronique, who had just completed her oenology studies in Dijon and was put in charge of winemaking. In the beginning the estate comprised 91 hectares planted with the same Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones the family knew from Burgundy, and Véronique Drouhin-Boss has since carried the house style forward with a sharp eye for balance and finesse.

Production & Style

The grapes grow in the Dundee Hills' volcanic soil, giving the wines an elegant structure with clear terroir character.
