Tawny Port Wine

Tawny Port Wine

  • Wooden box with three miniature port wine bottles from Quinta do Estanho
    Item no.: 222278643-55

Three miniature tasting glasses - white, ruby and tawny - gathered in one box, letting you experience the full range of a seven-generation estate in one sitting.

    Expert's Description

Quinta do Estanho Gift Box is a gift set with three different Port wines in 5 cl bottles from the Douro Valley in Portugal, with an alcohol content of 19.5%.

The box brings together three classic styles from the estate: a fine white Port, a fresh ruby Port and a cask-matured tawny, allowing you to taste your way through the range from young, fruit-driven Port to the more mature, nutty style, all in one gift set.

Quinta do Estanho can be traced back to 1757, when the estate's wines were included in the very first official demarcation of the Douro region under the Marquis of Pombal. The estate sits on the left bank of the River Pinhão at around 300 metres altitude and has been family-owned across seven generations. Today it is run by the descendants of Jaime Acácio Queiroz Cardoso, who combine traditional foot-treading in stone lagares with modern cellar practices.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The three styles range from the white Port's bright, citrus-like aroma, through the ruby's fresh dark berries, to the tawny's nutty and caramel notes.

    Palate

The white offers a light, almost dry fruitiness, the ruby is full with dark berry fruit, while the tawny shows roundness with dried fruit and nuts from its cask ageing.

    Finish

Common to all three is a clean, balanced finish that shows the estate's craftsmanship without becoming heavy in a single 5 cl measure.

    Did You Know?

Quinta do Estanho is named after the Portuguese word for tin, a mineral once mined in the area - a detail that still ties the estate's name to the very ground the grapes grow in, rather than to an owning family, as most other quintas are named.

  • Bottle of Martha's Special Reserve Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal
    Item no.: 059763-615-30899

Between the young Fine Tawny and the age-declared 10, 20 and 40 year bottles sits a level that rarely gets enough attention: Reserve. Martha's Special Reserve Tawny Port is the house's take on that middle ground, more depth than the youngest Tawny, without the long wait for the oldest vintages.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Special Reserve Tawny Port is a Portuguese Reserve Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 20%.

The "Reserve" designation is an official category under the Portuguese regulator IVDP, sitting between standard Tawny and the age-declared 10, 20, 30 and 40 year old bottles. The wine is a blend of several vintages, some of which have rested considerably longer in wood than the requirement for a standard Tawny.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in the Baixo Corgo district, where the family has specialised across six generations in exactly this style of cask-aged Tawny, and Special Reserve is one of the house's most balanced expressions.

The young, fresh notes from part of the blend meet the more mature, nutty tones from the older casks, giving a Port with both fresh fruit and complexity.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Toasted nuts and dried plums, with a hint of rancio.

    Palate

Soft and delicate, balancing young fruit with mature, nutty tones and a touch of caramel.

    Finish

Full and persistent, with a light acidity and warmth from the spirit.

    Did You Know?

"Reserve" is not a loose marketing term but an officially approved quality category under IVDP. To use the name, the wine has to meet a higher standard than a standard Tawny with no age statement, making Special Reserve a quiet mark of quality rather than just a name on the label.

  • Elegant bottle of Graham's 50 Year Old Tawny Port in dark amber with gift box
    Item no.: 2225664-385

Fifty years is longer than most careers, marriages, or even vines themselves manage to last. In Graham's cellars, it's the time it takes to reach the very top of the house's tawny style.

    Expert's Description

Graham's 50 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese aged Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks for an average of 50 years and bottled at 20%.

The Port is a blend of some of the oldest casks in Graham's reserves, chosen by the cellar master for their depth and concentration. That much time in oak comes at a cost in volume, a large share of the wine evaporates through the pores of the wood over the decades, leaving behind a syrupy, concentrated remainder with intense flavour.

Graham's was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham and has belonged to the Symington family since 1970, the family that today manages some of the Douro Valley's oldest and most valuable cask reserves. A 50 year old tawny is among the rarest expressions the house ever releases.

Only a handful of casks ever reach this age without losing balance or fresh acidity along the way. The casks that do form the basis of one of the most sought-after bottles in Graham's range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose unfolds in layers of orange blossom, preserved fruitcake, toffee, tobacco and butterscotch.

    Palate

The palate is rich and creamy, with vibrant acidity and notes of seasoned wood, nutmeg and cinnamon binding the sweet and oxidative notes together.

    Finish

The finish is long and rewarding, closing with a last touch of walnut and toasted nutmeg that lingers well after each sip.

    Specifications

Name: Graham's 50 Year Old Tawny Port

    Region-Country: Douro, Portugal

Ageing: Oak casks, average 50 years

    Flavour Profile

    Investment Potential

A 50 year old tawny is among the rarest bottles Graham's releases, since only a handful of casks ever reach that age without being drawn off along the way. Among collectors of aged Port, bottles at this level are typically regarded as one of the most coveted points in an entire Port house's range.

    Did You Know?

Over 50 years in cask, a large share of the original volume of Port evaporates through the pores of the wood, a process the spirits world knows as the 'angels' share'. What eventually reaches the bottle is therefore only a fraction of what was first laid down in cask half a century earlier.

  • Two small bottles of Graham's Twin Pack Port in dark red and golden colour
    Item no.: 2222786548-7878

Sometimes all it takes is a single sip to spark curiosity. This little twin pack holds two very different sides of Graham's, one young and fruity, one shaped by years in oak.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Twin Pack is a set of two miniature bottles of Portuguese Port from the Douro Valley, each 5 cl and bottled at 20%.

The pack holds a Late Bottled Vintage style Port, dark and berry-driven, alongside a 10 year old tawny, where ageing in oak has produced a nutty, golden character. The two bottles show two of the classic directions within Port: the unadulterated, fruity ruby style and the slowly oxidised tawny style.

Graham's was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham and has belonged to the Symington family's Port houses since 1970. The Twin Pack is the house's take on a small, easy introduction to two of the most distinct styles in the range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

One bottle's aroma offers dark forest berries and a touch of spice, while the other offers nuts, honey and fig.

    Palate

The palate ranges from sweet and berry-driven with firm tannins to softly sweet and nutty with mature, medium-aged fruit.

    Finish

Both close with a long, velvety finish, though with very different character, one fresh and fruity, the other warm and nutty.

  • Bottle of Dalva 20 Year Old Tawny Port with golden-brown label
    Item no.: 22227865464-88112

At twenty years, the wood has long taken over the conversation from the fruit - what's left is candied orange, coffee and a depth that only comes with time.

    Expert's Description

Dalva 20 Year Old Tawny is a Portuguese Aged Tawny Port with an average age of 20 years, bottled at 20%.

The age statement reflects the average age of the many casks in the blend, a method overseen by Portugal's wine authority, the IVDP - twice as old as the house's 10-year expression, and with a markedly deeper, more concentrated flavour profile as a result.

The wine is based on a traditional Douro field blend, including Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, aged in oak, where the long contact with the wood gives it a rich, complex aroma of candied orange, spice and dried figs.

Dalva is the Port brand of the house C. da Silva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933, and the 20-year expression marks the transition from the house's accessible Tawny range into the rarer, older categories.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Candied orange, warm spice and dried figs in a rich, sweetly perfumed bouquet.

    Palate

Fresh, fruity and elegant with perfumed depth, finishing on notes of coffee and cinnamon.

    Finish

Long finish of roasted coffee and a lingering, soft warmth.

    Did You Know?

The longer a Tawny ages, the more evaporates - the so-called "angels' share" - meaning a 20-year-old bottle actually represents a markedly larger starting volume of Port than the amount that finally ends up in the bottle.

    Item no.: 22227865464-185124

Some bottles aren't meant to sit open for a week - they're meant for two glasses on a quiet evening, and then the story is over.

    Expert's Description

Dalva Tawny 37.5 cl is a Portuguese Tawny Port in a half bottle, bottled at 19%.

Tawny is made by ageing a blend of vintages in oak for a number of years, where oxidative contact with the wood gradually shifts the colour from deep ruby to warm amber-brown and gives the wine its characteristic notes of dried fruit and nuts.

The 37.5 cl half bottle is a practical size for anyone wanting to enjoy a Tawny without committing to a full bottle, or who wants a smaller gift - Port keeps well once opened, but smaller formats reduce waste if you're only pouring a couple of glasses at a time.

Dalva is the Port brand of the house C. da Silva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933 by Clemente da Silva, who a year later registered the name Dalva as a contraction of his own surname.

  • Bottle of Martha's 40 Year Old Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal
    Item no.: 059763-615-1131

When this wine was first laid down, an entirely different generation of the Martha family was running the cellar. 40 years later, the result is one of the house's rarest bottles, a Port that has spent a working lifetime becoming what it is.

    Expert's Description

Martha's 40 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks for an average of 40 years and bottled at 20%.

After four decades in wood, only a fraction of the original volume remains, concentrated into a deep, golden wine of enormous complexity. Only a small part of what the house lays down each year is ever allowed to rest for that long.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in Baixo Corgo. Across six generations the family has refined exactly this discipline, and 40 years is the top level of the house's age-declared Tawny series.

The designation is approved by the Portuguese regulator IVDP after an official tasting, and the bottle has earned international recognition along the way.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Opulent aromas of dried fruit, honey and a hint of oak, with a deep golden character.

    Palate

Enormously complex and velvety, with layer upon layer of caramelised fruit, nuts and spice.

    Finish

    Did You Know?

Only a small share of what is laid down in Baixo Corgo ever makes it all the way to a 20 Year Old Tawny. The rest is sold along the way or blended into younger bottles. What remains after two decades is one of the house's most ambitious wines.

    Expert's Description

Martha's 20 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks for an average of 20 years and bottled at 20%.

After two decades in wood, the wine has lost most of its original fruit sweetness and instead developed deep complexity of dried fruit, nuts and spice. A significant portion of the volume has also evaporated through the wood along the way, concentrating the flavour further.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in the Baixo Corgo district, where the family has grown grapes for six generations and later built its name on precisely these age-declared Tawny series. 20 years is one of the levels the house has won the most awards for.

The designation is approved by the Portuguese regulator IVDP after an official tasting that confirms the character in the glass lives up to the 20 years on the label.

    Tasting Notes

A 20 Year Old Tawny is a recognised category among Port collectors, since it requires official age approval and is typically produced in smaller volumes than the house's younger series. The bottle suits anyone looking for a Port with a degree of rarity beyond the drinking experience itself.

    Did You Know?

During those 20 years in wood, a significant part of the wine evaporates through the cask, what cellar masters call the angels' share. Item no.: 059763-615-1121

Ten years is a long time to wait for a glass of wine, but that is exactly what this bottle has been given. Martha's 10 Year Old Tawny Port is the entry point to the house's age-declared series, deep amber and shaped by a decade in wood.

    Expert's Description

Martha's 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks for an average of 10 years and bottled at 19.5%.

The "10 Year Old" designation is not a vintage but an average of the casks that make up the final blend, approved by the Portuguese regulator IVDP after an official tasting. Some casks are older, some younger, but the combined result has to match the character expected of a ten-year Tawny.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in Baixo Corgo, where the family has grown grapes for six generations and later put its own name on the Port it produces. The age-declared Tawny series is what the house is best known for and has won awards for.

The wine is a blend of traditional Douro grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, which change over the years in wood from fresh berry fruit to dried fruit and spice.

    Tasting Notes

    Item no.: 059763-615-1115

In Baixo Corgo, where the terraced slopes of the Douro drop steeply toward the river, the Martha family has been growing grapes since 1727. Pink is the youngest style in the house's range, rosé in colour and built for drinking young rather than laying down.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Pink Rosé Port is a Portuguese Rosé Port from the Douro Valley, matured in stainless steel and bottled at 19%.

The wine is made with a brief skin contact, under 48 hours, just long enough for the grape skins to tint the must a clear pink before pressing. It is a different path from classic red Port, where the skins are left in contact for far longer to draw out colour and tannin.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces its roots back to 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in the Baixo Corgo district. Pink Rosé is the house's answer to a younger, more relaxed style of Port, meant for a summer glass rather than an armchair after dinner.

The wine rests exclusively in stainless steel tanks, never in wood, to preserve its young fruit and keep oxidative notes at bay. That means there is no vintage or age statement attached to it, only a style built to be enjoyed within a reasonably short time of bottling.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh raspberry and ripe cherry, with a light touch of violets underneath.

    Palate

Rosé Port is a fairly recent invention in the centuries-old Douro. The category only emerged in the 2000s, when producers began experimenting with brief skin contact to capture Port's fresher, younger side, a sharp contrast to a family that has been growing grapes in the Douro since 1727.

A full bottle of dry white Port can lose its freshness long before it is finished. That is why Martha's Fine Dry White Port also comes in this smaller 37.5 cl bottle, just enough for a couple of good aperitifs without any waste afterwards.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Fine Dry White Port is a Portuguese Dry White Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 20.5% in a 37.5 cl bottle.

The wine is made from pale-skinned Douro grape varieties, pressed without skin contact to keep the colour light and the character clean, with the spirit added later so more sugar first ferments into alcohol. That produces the dry, less sweet style that sets it apart from a classic white Port.

Martha's Wine & Spirits was founded in 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in the Baixo Corgo district of the Douro Valley. The half bottle is meant for those who want the same quality in a smaller portion.

Martha's Fine Dry White Port is a Portuguese Dry White Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 20.5%.

The wine is made from pale-skinned Douro grape varieties, fermented without skin contact to keep the colour light and the character clean. Unlike sweeter white Ports, the spirit is added later in the process, allowing more of the natural grape sugar to ferment into alcohol first, which produces the dry, less sweet style.

Martha's Wine & Spirits was founded in 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in Baixo Corgo, one of the oldest sub-regions of the Douro and known for its white grape plots close to the river, where the family still grows the varieties behind this Port today.

After pressing, the wine rests for a period in oak casks, adding a touch of roundness and spice without stripping away its fresh fruit character.

    Tasting Notes

    Palate

    Did You Know?

Unlike red Port, the white grapes for this style are pressed with no contact with the skins at all. It is a deliberate choice that keeps tannin and colour out of the must, and it is the main reason a dry white Port can taste almost like a regular white wine, just with a higher alcohol content.

  • Bottle of Martha's Fine Ruby Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal
    Item no.: 059763-615-1118

While the house's Tawny range is known for years spent in wood, Ruby takes the opposite path: a short spell in tank, bottled while the fruit is still at its ripest and juiciest. Martha's Fine Ruby Port is the most direct bottle in the range, deep cherry-red and built without detours.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Fine Ruby Port is a Portuguese Ruby Port from the Douro Valley, matured in stainless steel and bottled at 19.5%.

The grapes are pressed and fermented quickly, after which the wine rests in stainless steel for typically two to three years, far shorter than a Tawny. That halts the slow oxidation that would otherwise give amber tones, keeping instead the deep, near-opaque red colour and fresh berry fruit.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in the Baixo Corgo district of the Douro Valley. Across generations the family has farmed the terraced slopes, and Ruby is the house's most accessible and direct expression of that legacy.

The wine is a blend of traditional Douro grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, harvested from vineyards around Baixo Corgo, where the warm, dry climate produces ripe, powerful berries.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark cherry and blackberry, with a light touch of black pepper.

    Palate

Juicy and full-bodied, with dark berry fruit and a gentle sweetness carried by fresh, clear acidity.

    Finish

    Did You Know?

The name Ruby comes from its colour, reminiscent of the gemstone. To keep that deep red hue and fresh berry character, this style is deliberately bottled early, the shorter the time in tank, the more the flavour resembles freshly pressed grape juice rather than the dried fruit of an aged Tawny.

  • Bottle of Martha's Fine Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal
    Item no.: 059763-615-1117

Tawny is the style Martha's is best known for; the house's older vintages have picked up awards for years. Fine Tawny is the entry point into that world, a young, round Port with the first hints of the toasted character the family is famous for.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Fine Tawny Port is a Portuguese Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 19.5%.

Unlike Pink and Fine White, this Port spends time in wood, where it slowly shifts from deep ruby toward amber and picks up toasted, nutty notes from the oak. It is the same process behind the house's award-winning older Tawny releases, just in a younger, more accessible form.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces its roots back to 1727 in the Baixo Corgo district, and Tawny is the house's specialty. Fine Tawny is meant as an easy way into that character, without the long ageing and the price tag that come with the older vintages.

The wine is a blend of several years rather than a single vintage, so it carries no age statement, but the time in oak is unmistakable in both colour and flavour.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Amber-toned aromas of dried apricot and lightly toasted nuts.

    Palate

Round and soft, with caramel, dried fruit and a warm spice from the wood.

    Did You Know?

Tawny Port's amber colour does not come from the grape variety at all, but purely from time spent in oak. The longer the wine slowly oxidises through the wood, the deeper the colour and the nuttier the flavour become, exactly the process behind Martha's celebrated older Tawny vintages.

A decade in wood costs volume, part of the wine simply evaporates through the cask along the way. That makes every drop of a 10 Year Old Tawny worth a little more, even when it comes in a bottle as small as this one.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Miniature 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a Portuguese age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in a 5 cl format, matured in oak casks for an average of 10 years and bottled at 19.5%.

The wine is identical to the house's 75 cl bottle of the same name, just in miniature format. The "10 Year Old" designation is an average of the casks in the blend, approved by the Portuguese regulator IVDP after an official tasting.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in Baixo Corgo, where the family has grown grapes for six generations and built a name on precisely these age-declared Tawny series.

    Palate

    Did You Know?

Part of what is laid down in wood never makes it into the bottle. Evaporation through the cask, what cellar masters call the angels' share, means that after ten years only a smaller part of the original volume remains, but with a far higher concentration of flavour.

  • Miniature bottle of Martha's Fine Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal
    Item no.: 059763-615-307

Cellars in Baixo Corgo use miniature bottles themselves to check the quality of a whole batch before release. This 5 cl edition of Martha's Fine Tawny gives the same option at home, a quick taste without opening a full bottle.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Miniature Fine Tawny Port is a Portuguese Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in a 5 cl format, matured in oak casks and bottled at 19%.

The wine is the same young Tawny blend as the house's 75 cl bottle, where the wine rests for a period in wood after pressing and gradually shifts from ruby red to amber while picking up nutty notes from the cask.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727, when the family settled as grape growers in the Baixo Corgo district of the Douro Valley, and Tawny remains the house's speciality to this day.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Amber-toned aromas of dried apricot and lightly toasted nuts.

    Palate

Round and soft, with caramel, dried fruit and warm spice from the cask.

    Finish

Medium length and nutty, with a gentle sweetness that fades slowly.

    Did You Know?

Miniature bottles like this one originate from the cellar's own routine, where the cellar master draws a small sample from a cask to judge whether the wine is ready to be blended and released. Today the format has become a popular way to give Port as a gift or a taster.

  • Miniature bottle of Martha's Colheita 2005 Tawny Port from the Douro Valley
    Item no.: 059763-615-306

Most Tawny Ports are a blend of several vintages. Colheita is the exception, a single harvest, captured in time and held in wood until it was ready. This miniature offers a small glimpse of the 2005 harvest.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Miniature Colheita 2005 Single Harvest Tawny Port is a Portuguese vintage-dated Tawny from the Douro Valley in a 5 cl format, matured in oak casks and bottled at 19.5%.

Unlike the house's other Tawny series, which are blends of several years, a Colheita comes exclusively from a single harvest, in this case 2005. By regulation the wine must rest at least seven years in wood before bottling, and this bottle has been given considerably longer than the minimum requirement.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in Baixo Corgo, where the family has specialised across generations in exactly this style of carefully cask-aged Tawny.

The 5 cl miniature format makes it possible to get to know a vintage-dated Port without investing in a full bottle.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried fruit and caramel, with a hint of leather.

    Palate

Soft and full, with spice, dried orange peel and a light rancio note.

    Finish

Long, intense and striking, with lingering caramel notes.

    Did You Know?

A Colheita is the only type of Port where both wood ageing and a single vintage appear on the label at the same time. Standard Tawny only states an average age, while a Vintage Port states a year without cask ageing, Colheita is where the two meet.

  • Gift set with bottle and glass of Martha's 10 Year Old Tawny Port from the Douro Valley
    Item no.: 059763-615-232

A 10 Year Old Tawny deserves the right glass, not just any tumbler from the cupboard. Martha's 10 Year Old Gift Set with Glass delivers both together: a 50 cl bottle of the house's age-declared Tawny and a glass shaped to concentrate exactly the nutty notes the Port is known for.

    Expert's Description

Martha's 10 Year Old Gift Set with Glass is a Portuguese age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley in a 50 cl bottle with a matching glass, matured in oak casks for an average of 10 years and bottled at 19.5%.

The wine itself is identical to the house's 75 cl edition of the 10 Year Old Tawny, just in a smaller bottle size suited to the gift format. The "10 Year Old" designation is an average of the casks in the blend, approved by the Portuguese regulator IVDP.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in Baixo Corgo, where the family has grown grapes for six generations and developed exactly the age-declared Tawny series the house is best known for.

    Did You Know?

The narrow shape of a Port glass is not just tradition. The tight opening holds on to the volatile aromatic compounds in a Tawny, while the wider bowl gives enough room to aerate the wine slightly when swirled, together making the nutty notes stand out more clearly than in an ordinary wine glass.

  • Gift set of four miniature bottles of Martha's Tawny Port from the Douro Valley
    Item no.: 059763-615-180

Four bottles, four decades each, a full century in wood combined. Martha's 100 Years Miniature Gift Set brings together the house's age-declared Tawny series in miniature, so you can taste your way through time without opening four full bottles.

    Expert's Description

Martha's 100 Years Miniature Gift Set is a gift set of four miniature bottles of age-declared Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, 10, 20, 30 and 40 years old, each 5 cl.

Each bottle represents its own level in the house's Tawny series, where the wine rests in oak casks for an average of the number of years stated on the label. The longer it stays in wood, the more it shifts from fresh fruit toward dried fruit, caramel and spice.

Martha's Wine & Spirits traces back to 1727 in the Baixo Corgo district, where the family has refined this exact age-declared Tawny style across six generations. The gift set is a combined showcase of that development, from the youngest to the oldest bottle.

Because each bottle is only 5 cl, all four levels can be tasted side by side, making it easy to compare directly how time in wood shapes the wine.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

From fresh caramel and nuts in the 10 year bottle to deep honey and dried fruit in the 40 year bottle.

    Palate

A journey from round, full sweetness to complex, concentrated dried fruit and spice.

    Finish

Increasing length and depth with each older bottle, from medium to very long.

  • Gift set with three small bottles of Graham's Tawny Port in presentation box
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0208

Some gifts are meant to be opened and finished in one sitting. This one is meant to be explored – three glasses, three ages, one journey through decades of maturation in Graham's cellars.

    Expert's Description

Graham's The Aged Tawny Collection is a gift set of three Portuguese Tawny Ports from the Douro Valley, each 20 cl and bottled at 20%.

The set brings together three stages of Graham's tawny production: the house's younger Tawny, matured for a few years in oak, a 10 year old tawny and a 20 year old tawny. Tasting them side by side makes it clear how the Port changes character the longer it rests in cask, from fresh berry fruit to nuts, caramel and dried fruit.

Graham's was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham in Porto and has belonged to the Symington family's collection of Port houses since 1970. The gift set is the house's way of introducing the range of styles found within aged tawny Port.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aromas range from fresh, red-berry fruit in the youngest bottle to nuts, caramel and dried orange peel in the oldest.

    Palate

The palate develops from light and fruity to rich and velvety, with toffee and mature dried fruit, the older the tawny gets.

    Finish

The finish grows longer and more complex with each age, from a short, fresh close to a lingering, nutty finale.
