Four decades of stillness have turned grape juice into something close to liquid gold – a rare drop that demands time to understand.
Expert's Description
Martha's 40 Year Old Tawny Port is an aged Tawny Port in a 5 cl bottle with an alcohol content of 20%.
The wine is a rare blend in which the youngest component is at least 40 years old, and the exceptionally long ageing in oak barrels in Baixo Corgo has concentrated the aromas to a level rarely found outside the finest houses of the Douro.
Martha's Wine & Spirits is today run by the sixth generation of the family, and it is precisely these oldest Tawny Ports that have brought the house international awards and recognition.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Opulent aromas of oak, dried fruit and honey, with deep notes of mocha and a distant hint of violets.
Palate
Lavish and elegant, with layers of fig, date and caramelised sugar held together by a lively acidity.
Finish
An almost endless, full finish that slowly fades into a dry, nutty note.
