Strathearn Whisky

At one of Scotland's smallest distilleries, whisky is still made by hand, guided by touch, taste, smell and sound rather than automation. Strathearn is proof that whisky can be made on a micro scale and still carry the soul of its whole region.

About Strathearn

Strathearn Distillery is located in Highland Perthshire and is one of Scotland's very smallest distilleries, with production equal to just one cask a day. For newcomers it's a unique chance to taste whisky from one of the most hands-on distilleries in the country; for collectors, the low output and use of the rare Maris Otter grain make Strathearn's releases some of the most exclusive and sought-after among Scotland's micro-distilleries.

History & Background

Strathearn Distillery was founded as one of Scotland's first new micro-distilleries in the modern wave of small craft distilleries, and from the outset has stuck to a fully manual production process without automation. In 2019 the distillery was acquired by the respected independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co, giving the company its first-ever distillery under its own roof. The acquisition gave Strathearn access to a wider audience, while the small, hands-on production style has remained unchanged.

Production & Style

The small stills give a slower, more hands-on distillation process, and the distillery actively experiments with different cask types during maturation.

Signature Style

Handmade, Experimental, Small-Batch
A grain-rich, lightly sweet character with varying notes from batch to batch – a whisky clearly bearing the mark of its hands-on origin.
