Mannochmore Whisky

Mannochmore was built in 1971 as a sister distillery to nearby Glenlossie, primarily to brew light malt for blends. In the 1990s the distillery briefly experimented with Loch Dhu - an almost coal-black whisky coloured with caramel, which was met with both cult status and ridicule. Today Mannochmore lives a quieter life under Diageo, far from the experiment that once made it famous.

About Mannochmore Whisky

Mannochmore is a Speyside distillery from 1971, sister to the nearby Glenlossie. For a newcomer, it's a light, floral, approachable style; for the connoisseur, Mannochmore is inseparable from Loch Dhu - the coal-black, caramel-coloured curiosity from the 1990s, which today trades for high prices among collectors precisely because of its eccentric, short-lived existence.

History & Background

The distillery was built by then-owner DCL (now Diageo) to increase production capacity alongside the neighbouring Glenlossie distillery. Throughout its history, Mannochmore has primarily supplied malt to popular blends such as Haig.

Production & Style

The distillery produces a light, clean malt style well suited to blending, but which also offers a delicate character when released as a single malt.
