Boodles is named after one of London's oldest gentlemen's clubs in St. James, founded in 1762 by Edward Boodle and still a symbol of classic British class.

    Item no.: 2222786539-1034

The gin takes its name from the exclusive gentlemen's club Boodle's in St James's, London, founded in 1762. Since 1845, the recipe has left out citrus entirely, a deliberate choice that still sets Boodles apart.

    Expert's description

Boodles London Dry Gin is an English Premium London Dry Gin distilled from English wheat and bottled at 40%.

The gin was created in 1845 and helped shape what we now know as the classic London Dry style. It is said to have been Winston Churchill's favourite gin, and was reintroduced in 2013 by G&J Distillers in Warrington.

Boodles stands out for deliberately omitting citrus botanicals, building the recipe instead on sage, rosemary and nutmeg, giving a more understated, herbal aroma and taste.

The gin is distilled on a rare Carter Head still in Cheshire, bottled in Essex and packaged in Scottish glass with labels printed in Wales, a thoroughly British craft from start to finish.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is herbal and understated with sage and rosemary, without the citrus freshness usually associated with London Dry Gin.

    Palate

The palate is dry and spiced with juniper up front, backed by rosemary and a warm nutmeg tone.

    Finish

The finish is clean and herbal, with a last trace of sage.

About Boodles Gin

History & Background

The name and heritage draw directly on Boodle's Club, an institution that has been a gathering place for London's upper class since 1762, an association the brand has deliberately cultivated in positioning itself as a classic, solid gin.

Production & Style
