Pusser's Selected Aged 151 is inspired by the rum that all sailors in the "The British Navy" received in their daily ration from the mid-1600s until July 31, 1970, also known as Black Tot Day. The rum is aged for a minimum of three years in bourbon casks and is produced in accordance with the Admiralty Regulations for rum at the time. To enhance the taste and expression, the contents are chill filtered.

About Pusser's West Indies Rum

Pusser's West Indies Rum is based on the original recipe the British Royal Navy used for its daily rum rations from 1655 to 1970, a blend of several Caribbean rum styles composed by the Navy's own "pusser" (purser). When the ration was abolished in 1970, the Pusser's company secured the rights to the original recipe and the Navy's pot-still distillates, making it the only rum marketed as authentic "Navy Rum". For collectors, the historical link to the Navy and the rare overproof editions are a major part of the appeal, while newcomers get a bold, dark rum with a story stretching back to the 1600s.

History & Background

The British Royal Navy began issuing daily rum rations to its sailors in 1655, a tradition that continued for 315 years until safety concerns aboard modern, technically advanced ships led the Admiralty to abolish the ration on 31 July 1970, a date veterans still mark every year as "Black Tot Day". When the tradition ended, entrepreneur Charles Tobias secured the rights to the Navy's original recipe and remaining pot-still stocks and founded the Pusser's Rum company to carry the legacy forward commercially. Today part of Pusser's profits is still donated to charity for Navy veterans through the Royal Navy Sailors' Fund, known as the "Tot Fund".
