Angostura Rum

A German doctor traveled to Venezuela in 1820 to help the rebel Simón Bolívar in his fight against Spanish colonial rule. Dr. Johann Siegert brewed a bitter, healing tonic for the fever-stricken soldiers, a drink that later became world-famous under the name Angostura Bitters. What fewer people know is that the same house today also produces award-winning rum, including the multi-honored 1919 series.

  • Black bottle with gold label and seal, Angostura 1787 15 Year
    Item no.: 22227865407-7017

1787 is the birth year of House of Angostura's founder, and the name is the house's tribute to the long legacy behind this 15-year-old release.

    Expert description

Angostura 1787 is a Premium Caribbean Rum from Trinidad, a blend of rums matured a minimum of 15 years, bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from House of Angostura, founded in Venezuela in 1824 and relocated to Trinidad in 1875. The 1787 expression is the house's flagship release among its age-stated rums, composed of selected rums matured at least 15 years, giving a luxurious, full-bodied character with complex fruitiness and a signature funk from ester-driven distillation that divides opinion between traditionalists and those who prefer a softer, more classic profile.

    Nose

Dried fruit, toasted oak and robust spice, with passion fruit, dried apricot, charred wood smoke and vanilla fudge, plus lightly overripe banana, plum and rose petal.

    Palate

Sweet at first with passion fruit, vanilla fudge and ripe peach, before turning towards dry, toasted oak, toffee and black pepper spice.

    Finish

Long and warm with gentle oak spice and a fruity aftertaste that slowly fades.

Cinnamon, cardamom and clove layered on top of a legendary Trinidad rum - Tamboo takes its name from the bamboo drums that once echoed through the streets of Port of Spain.

    Expert description

Angostura Tamboo Spiced is a spiced Spirit Drink from Trinidad & Tobago based on Angostura rum, bottled at 40%.

Tamboo Spiced builds on Angostura's classic rum heritage and adds Caribbean spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and clove, naturally sweetened with sugar cane molasses. About Angostura Rum

Angostura is the house from Trinidad and Tobago, world-famous for its aromatic bitters, but also an acclaimed producer of high-quality rum, including the multi-award-winning 1919 rum. From a modest beginning as a medicinal tonic for soldiers in the Venezuelan war of independence, the house has grown into a central part of the Caribbean spirits industry. For beginners, Angostura offers an accessible introduction to Caribbean rum from a house whose name is already familiar from behind the bar, while connoisseurs appreciate the house's sheer production scale: over 50 million liters of rum a year, a level only a handful of Caribbean producers can match.

History & Background

The story begins in 1820, when the German doctor Johann Siegert traveled to Venezuela to help the rebel Simón Bolívar in the fight against Spanish colonial power. As surgeon general of the rebel army, Siegert developed a bitter tonic from local herbs and plants to treat the soldiers' fever and stomach ailments, and by 1824 the drink was already becoming famous under the name Angostura. The company later moved to Trinidad & Tobago, where it remains headquartered, and naturally expanded its production into rum as sugarcane grew right outside its door. Today Angostura distills over 50 million liters of rum a year and has cemented its place as one of the Caribbean's largest and most versatile spirits producers.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled in modern column stills and aged in oak casks, often previously used for bourbon, giving it a round, approachable character.

Signature Style

Round, Caramel, Approachable
The flavor offers a smooth, caramel-driven sweetness with a lightly spicy finish.
