Eimverk Whisky

In Iceland, where volcanoes and glaciers share the landscape, Eimverk Distillery makes whisky under the name Floki, named after the first Norseman to set sail to discover the island. The barley is grown locally despite the harsh climate, and one expression is dried over burning sheep dung for a truly unique smoky character. This is whisky that insists on tasting of Iceland itself.

    Expert description

Floki Icelandic Barrel 1 Iceland Single Malt Whisky is a single-cask bottling from Eimverk Distillery, made from 100% Icelandic barley, bottled at 47%. Flóki is produced by family-run Eimverk Distillery, Iceland's only whisky distillery, founded in 2009. It took the family four years and 163 trial distillations to perfect the recipe before the first batches of Icelandic whisky were ready for market in 2015. The whisky is named after Hrafna-Flóki, a brave Viking chieftain who, according to the sagas, carried three ravens with him and let them lead him to the island he named Iceland, where he became its first known settler. Flóki is made from 100% local Icelandic barley, a hardy strain that thrives during Iceland's short, intense summer.

About Eimverk Whisky

Eimverk Distillery is an Icelandic distillery known for producing Floki Icelandic Whisky, located in Reykjavik. For the newcomer it's an interesting, earthy whisky with a clear local identity; for the connoisseur, the distillery is particularly known for its Sheep Dung-Smoked Reserve, where the malt is dried using sheep dung instead of peat, a unique production method found nowhere else in the world, giving the whisky an unusual, distinctive flavour profile.

History & background

Eimverk Distillery was founded in 2009 in Garðabær near Reykjavik and helped open up the Icelandic whisky market, which barely existed before then. The name Floki honours Hrafna-Flóki Vilgerðarson, the legendary Norse sailor who, according to the sagas, was the first to deliberately sail towards and discover Iceland in the ninth century. The distillery places great emphasis on using exclusively Icelandic ingredients, including barley grown locally despite the challenging climate, giving the whisky a close connection to the island's landscape and history.

Production & style

The whisky is distilled from 100% Icelandic barley and aged in the harsh Nordic climate, which gives it its own character.

Signature style

Earthy, Spiced, Nordic
The flavor offers an earthy, spiced character shaped by the Icelandic climate.
