Gin Mare

On the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona, a gin is distilled that tastes of southern summer: olive, thyme, rosemary and basil in perfect harmony. Gin Mare was born because ordinary tonic drowned out its delicate profile – so the distillery simply invented its own.

About Gin Mare

Gin Mare is a Spanish gin from Vilanova i la Geltrú near Barcelona, distilled using the Mediterranean's own botanicals. For newcomers it's a herbal, lightly salty gin that tastes of a southern European kitchen garden; for collectors it's notable that each botanical is distilled separately to preserve its pure character, and that the distillery found ordinary tonic too citrus-heavy to match the gin, leading to the creation of the dedicated 1724 tonic.

History & Background

Gin Mare was created by Destilerias Miquel Guansé in the small coastal town of Vilanova i la Geltrú, where the distillery already had generations of experience in local spirits production. The idea was to create a gin that reflected the Mediterranean's food culture and landscape rather than copying classic British styles. Through experimentation the distillers arrived at a unique combination of arbequina olive, rosemary, thyme and basil, with each ingredient distilled separately. The gin's success later led to the development of 1724 Tonic Water, named after the altitude in metres at which the quinine used in the tonic is harvested in Argentina.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and Mediterranean botanicals such as arbequina olives, rosemary, thyme and basil, each distilled separately.

Signature Style

Herbal, Saline, Aromatic
The taste offers a herbal, aromatic character with a lightly saline, olive-driven finish.
