Sample 3 cl Mosgaard New Organic Dry Gin 40% is a Danish Organic Dry Gin distilled with juniper and fresh citrus peel and bottled at 40%.
Mosgaard was founded in 2015 on Sydfyn in Denmark, where Jes and Gitte Mosgaard built the distillery around a single condition: everything had to be certified organic, from the grain to the finished contents of the bottle. The ambition was Scottish craft with a Nordic voice, and that attitude carries straight into the gin. In 2025 production moved to Kolding under new ownership.
The style is dry and restrained rather than perfumed. Juniper is allowed to stand out, and around it sit fresh citrus peels and a calm spice note that lends the gin a hint of sweetness without any sugar being added. At 40% it is softer than the strongest gins on the shelf, which makes it easier to drink without tonic.
A distillery working with both whisky and gin thinks differently about its raw material. The base spirit comes from the same organic grain foundation, and that gives the gin a body you rarely meet in fully neutral industrial gin. Tasting notes
Nose
Clean and bright, with juniper and grated citrus peel. Behind it sits something soft and grainy, plus a puff of spice that recalls a freshly opened spice drawer.
Palate
A gentle opening of citrus and lightly spiced sweetness, which comes from the botanicals rather than from sugar. Juniper steps clearly forward in the middle, and the 40% keeps the whole thing measured and drinkable.
Finish
Long and fresh, carried by the citrus fruit. The spice fades slowly and leaves a dry, clean feeling on the palate.
