While most gin distillers juggle a dozen botanicals or more, Henrik Elsner at Stonge Grange sticks to just three, letting each ingredient speak for itself.
Expert's description
ELG Gin No 2 Old Tom is a Danish Old Tom Gin distilled at Stonge Grange and bottled at 46.3%.
The distillery was founded by Henrik Elsner in 2009 in Fredensborg and is defined by its philosophy of using very few raw materials, in sharp contrast to most mass-produced gins.
ELG No 2 is built on the same three botanicals as ELG No 1, juniper, coriander seed and Danish carrots, where the whole carrot, including the green tops, goes into the distillation.
What makes No 2 an Old Tom is an additional juniper extract soaked in alcohol for four weeks, added afterwards, giving the gin a natural sweetness without using sugar, honey or liquorice root.
