About Fary Lochan

Fary Lochan is a small, family-run distillery set in the Jutland countryside, producing everything from classic gin to cask-aged special editions and gin liqueurs, often in very limited runs. That makes the house appealing both to newcomers wanting to try Danish gin in its purest form, and to collectors chasing the rare, hand-numbered bottles from a distillery whose roots in whisky and snaps give the gin a cask character rarely found in the category.

History & Background

Fary Lochan Distillery was founded by the Kammersgaard family in Give, central Jutland, originally as one of Denmark's first microdistilleries for whisky and snaps. The gin production emerged as a natural byproduct of the cask-ageing and distilling knowledge the family had already built up over the years. Rather than following the gin category's typical fast production cycle, Fary Lochan chose to rest several expressions in used sherry and bourbon casks, a technique far more common in the whisky world. The result is a small distillery with a surprisingly wide range of expressions, still run as a genuine family business.

Production & Style

Beyond traditional distillation, Fary Lochan experiments with aging gin in both sherry and bourbon casks, a technique that gives the gin a depth and complexity normally associated only with whisky. Botanicals vary from expression to expression, but juniper and Danish herbs are a recurring theme.
