Adnams Whisky

A traditional English brewer dating back to 1872 that took the bold leap in 2010 of building its own distillery right beside the beer kettles. Two centuries of brewing craft meet a young English whisky story here, with malt and yeast strains carried straight from the brewhouse into the stills. The result is a whisky that unmistakably tastes of its origins – earthy, grain-forward, and quietly proof that England can make single malt too.

Three grains and American oak give this edition a fuller character.

    Expert description

Adnams American Oak English Triple Malt Whisky is made from a mash bill with three different malted grains and matured in American oak, bottled at 47%. Adnams has had brewing operations in Southwold on the English east coast since 1872, but it was only in 2010 that the brewery established Copper House Distillery for the production of gin, vodka and English whisky. This made Adnams the first brewery in England to be legally permitted to produce spirits on the same site as its beer production, and the distillery uses local grains grown in the surrounding region.

About Adnams

Adnams began life as a brewery in Southwold, Suffolk, founded in 1872, which opened its own distillery next to the brewhouse in 2010. The whisky is distilled using the same malt and yeast strains used in the beer production, creating a clear link between the house's two drinks categories. For newcomers it's a gentle way into English whisky, while collectors value the small, tightly controlled batch sizes that make every release a rarity outside the shadow of the big Scottish names.

History & Background

Adnams had brewed beer in Southwold for generations before the family decided to invest in copper stills and expand into whisky and gin. The decision came during a period when English whisky generally experienced a renaissance after decades without new distilleries.

Production & Style

The whisky is distilled from the brewery's own malt and matured in a mix of cask types, giving it a character clearly linked to the beer brewing's rustic, fruity notes.

Signature Style

Grainy, Fruity, Rustic
Malt and light fruit sweetness give an earthy, accessible whisky clearly bearing the mark of the brewery's beer heritage.
