Provenance Whisky

Provenance is proof you don't have to pay extra for an honest cask. Douglas Laing's most accessible series sticks to unfiltered, uncoloured whisky at fair prices, without cutting corners on solid craftsmanship.

About Provenance

Provenance is part of the Douglas Laing whisky universe and is typically released through sister company McGibbon's, focused on slightly younger but still quality-conscious single-cask bottlings. The whisky is usually bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or added colour, giving a clean, direct expression of each distillery's character at a price notably lower than many other independent series. For newcomers, Provenance is an easy entry point into single-cask whisky, while collectors value the series for its consistent quality across Scotland's regions.

History & Background

The series stems from Douglas Laing & Co., founded in Glasgow in 1948 by Fred Laing senior, and has for decades served as the firm's more affordable companion to its pricier signature releases. When the family business split in 2013, Provenance stayed with Fred Laing at the continuing Douglas Laing & Co., while brother Stewart took other series with him to Hunter Laing. Provenance has since kept its original role as the firm's accessible but serious entry point into Scottish single-cask whisky.

History & Background

There is not much publicly available history on Provenance, and the house keeps a relatively low profile about its origins. What is clear is its position in the range, reflected in the style and character described above.

Production & Style

The whiskies are bottled cask by cask from distilleries across Scotland, giving them a varied, authentic character.
