Reinheart has matured their rye for six years and bottled it as a Small Batch. This is a more mature expression than the younger releases and shows what time does to rye.

It is matured for six years and produced as a Small Batch bottling — meaning from a limited number of casks at a time. Reinheart is a Danish micro-distillery producing rye and malt whiskies with a focus on craftsmanship and Danish raw materials. Six years is a respectable age for a Danish rye whiskey and gives the cask time to soften rye's natural edges.

  Tasting notes

  Nose

  Peppery and spicy with characteristic rye aroma. Sweet vanilla and caramel from the cask. Lightly bakery-like — rye bread and a hint of cinnamon stick.

  Palate

  The rye character is central — dry, spicy and insistent with oak and caramel in the background. 45% is a good strength for this expression — enough to carry the flavour without being harsh.

  Finish

  Long and spicy with dried fruit and rye bread. Warm and satisfying.

  Reinheart Rye Whiskey Cask #2 2022 is a Danish Rye Whiskey at 56.8%, distilled in Germany in 2015 and bottled in December 2022 as a Single Cask from Cask #2, in a limited run of 250 numbered bottles. The mashbill is 70% rye, 20% corn and 10% malted barley. Matured in an American virgin oak cask (Toast M / Char 4) at Vintre Møller in Central Zealand, Denmark. Bottled by Hammer & Son. The founders of the project came up with the idea after a pub crawl in 2012, aiming to make a classic rye whiskey in the bourbon tradition.

  Tasting notes

  Nose

  Fresh rye, vanilla and oak. Light spice notes — cinnamon, black pepper — with a soft honey character from the oak maturation.

  Palate

  Balanced and spicy. Rye dominates with its characteristic dryness, but the oak's vanilla and caramel are present. Marginally softer than Cask #3 at 56.8%.

  Finish

  Long and dry. The spice holds and the oak closes with a rounded note.

  Henrik had an idea during a pub crawl in 2012: make a rye whiskey in the Kentucky bourbon tradition but with a Danish anchor. It took until 2022 to see the result. Cask #3 is one barrel from that journey — bottled at 59%.

  Palate

  Intense and spicy. Rye's characteristic dryness and spice meet the oak's sweetness. Light fruit and caramel in the mid-palate, with a dry rye finish.

  Finish

  Long and dry with lingering spice and oak. The rye's fingerprint holds.
