Kamet Whisky

Indian single malt named after one of the Himalaya's high peaks, Mount Kamet, which rises over 7,700 metres in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The whisky carries the same promise of altitude and extremes: matured in India's warm climate, where time moves faster through the cask than it does in Scotland's cool warehouses.

  • Bottle of Kamet Single Malt Whisky from the Himalayas, India
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-19727909

Named after India's third-highest peak, Kamet matures in the shadow of the Himalayas, a place where the extreme climate presses three cask types together into one whisky.

    Expert's description

Kamet Single Malt India Whisky is a Single Malt India Whisky distilled at the foot of Mount Kamet in the Indian state of Haryana and bottled at 46%.

The whisky is a blend of three cask types: ex-bourbon casks of American oak, ex-wine casks of French oak and ex-sherry casks. The extreme climate at the foot of the Himalayas leaves a clear mark on the maturation, giving the whisky a complex, wine-like character.

About Kamet

Kamet is an Indian single malt whisky whose name is drawn from Mount Kamet in the Indian Himalaya. For beginners, it's a chance to taste what India's warm climate does to a whisky, while world whisky enthusiasts will recognise the fast, intense maturation that characterises spirits from subtropical and tropical regions.

History & Background

There is not much publicly available history on Kamet, and the house keeps a relatively low profile about its origins and the ownership behind the brand. It's part of a growing wave of Indian single malts that, since the 2000s, have won international recognition for challenging Scotland's definition of what whisky can be. What is clear is its position in the range, reflected in the style and character described above.

Production & Style

The whisky is distilled and matured in India's warm climate, giving it faster maturation than in cooler regions.

Signature Style

Full-Bodied, Spicy, Fruity
The whisky offers a full-bodied, spicy character with a fruity finish.
