William & Humbert Sherry

In Jerez de la Frontera, where sherry's history was truly written, William & Humbert has contributed its own chapter for generations. The house unites British trading tradition with Andalusian winemaking, a combination that has defined the sherry industry since the 1800s. This is sherry with a name that literally carries two cultures.

  • Dry Sack Sherry Williams & Humbert Vintage Collector's Bottle Sherry 75 cl
    Item no.: 22264-388447

Some bottles just get poured. Others carry a story every time they're taken down from a shelf.

A faded paper label, a German import stamp and an old regulatory seal from Jerez - this Dry Sack Sherry from Williams & Humbert once stood in a German wine shop, waiting to be poured.

    Expert's Description

Dry Sack Sherry Williams & Humbert is a Spanish Sherry from Jerez, blended from Amontillado and Oloroso with a touch of Pedro Ximénez, aged in American oak casks under the solera system.

The bottle carries a seal from the Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and an import label from Epikur in Koblenz am Rhein, at the time part of the Deinhard wine house, which handled a large share of German imports of Spanish and Scotch brands through the 1960s and 1970s. The typeface on the label, the English-language storage instructions and the "Printed in Spain" mark all point to that same era.

The name Dry Sack comes from the Spanish word saca, the term for the wine drawn from the solera for bottling. When Williams & Humbert launched the Sherry in 1906, it was sold wrapped in coarse sackcloth, and the name has stuck ever since.

As a collector's bottle, no guarantee can be given for drinkability or the quality of the contents. We sell this bottle as a historical artefact, not as one intended for drinking.

When Alexander Williams rented a warehouse in Jerez in 1877 to start his own bodega venture with his brother-in-law Arthur Humbert, he could hardly have imagined that their 1906 blend would one day become the very benchmark for accessible, well-balanced sherry the world over.

    Expert's Description

Williams & Humbert 15 Year Solera Especial Dry Sack is a Sherry from Jerez, Spain, with an alcohol content of 20.5%. This 15-year edition is a Solera Especial, meaning the sherry has achieved an average age of 15 years through the solera system, giving it considerably more depth and complexity than the house's standard Dry Sack. The bodega has historically helped establish the quality demarcation for Jerez-Xeres-Brandy and is today counted among the world's most respected sherry producers.

Williams & Humbert 20 Year Don Guido Solera Especial Pedro Ximénez Sherry is one of the most luxurious and deeply concentrated PX sherries produced in Jerez.

    Expert's Description

Williams & Humbert 20 Year Don Guido is a Spanish Fortified Wine from Jerez with an alcohol content of 18%, made exclusively from Pedro Ximénez grapes. The grapes are sun-dried after harvest to intensify the sugar content and create the characteristic, almost syrupy sweetness for which PX sherry is famous. This Solera Especial has aged for at least 20 years through the solera's systematic blending of vintages, giving a complexity achieved only through decades of slow maturation.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers raisins, fig, dark chocolate and a hint of coffee.

    Palate

The palate is dark, dense and irresistibly full-bodied with syrupy sweetness and notes of dried fruit.

    Finish

    Serving & Food Pairing

About William & Humbert

William & Humbert is a sherry house in Jerez de la Frontera, the heart of Spanish sherry production, with a name reflecting the long tradition of British-Spanish collaboration in the region. For the newcomer it's a solid entry into classic sherry style; for the history-minded, the name itself is interesting - British trading families played a central role in building the sherry industry into the international export good it is today, and many of the oldest houses still carry British names as a testament to that legacy.

History & Background

William & Humbert has roots in the long tradition of British involvement in the sherry trade from Jerez de la Frontera, where British trading families from the 1700s and 1800s established themselves in the region to export sherry to the British market. This exchange between British trading capital and Andalusian winemaking expertise significantly shaped how modern sherry production and classification came to look. William & Humbert is part of that legacy and continues today the tradition of producing classic sherry using the historical methods that have defined the region for centuries.

Production & Style

William & Humbert produces sherry using the traditional solera method, where younger and older vintages are gradually blended through a series of casks, giving a consistent and complex flavour profile.
