Named after Martin Doorly, who began bottling rum in Barbados in the 1920s, and today carried on by the island's oldest distillery under one of the Caribbean's most respected families.
Expert Description
Doorly's 14 Year Fine Old Barbados is a Barbados Rum, a blend of pot and column distilled rum aged 14 years, mainly in ex-bourbon casks with a smaller portion in ex-madeira casks, bottled at 48%.
The brand is owned and produced by R.L. Seale & Company at Foursquare Distillery, one of Barbados' oldest and most respected rum houses, run by fourth-generation distiller Richard Seale. Doorly's 14 Year is a further development of the house's XO expression, with longer ageing and a strength of 48%, where the madeira casks add an extra layer of complexity to the classic Barbados profile.
As with all of Foursquare's releases, there's no added sugar or colouring, just rum, time and cask.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Caramel, dried figs and a light winey sweetness from the madeira casks, with a hint of toasted nut.
Palate
Rich and complex with brown sugar, spiced oak and a depth of dark dried fruit.
Finish
Long and warm, with lingering spice and a light madeira sweetness that fades gently away.
