Don Q keeps experimenting with cask finishing, this time finding inspiration in an Italian classic, where a sweet vermouth cask adds an entirely unexpected herbal note.
Expert Description
Don Q Double Wood Vermouth Cask Finish is a Puerto Rico Rum from Destilería Serrallés, aged 5 to 8 years in American white oak and then finished 4 to 6 weeks in Italian Mancino Vermouth Vecchio casks, bottled at 40%.
After the base ageing, the rum is transferred to casks of Italian white oak that previously held Mancino Vermouth Vecchio, a sweet, herbal vermouth style. This short but pronounced finishing period adds notes of dark berries, cherry and a light herbal spice to Don Q's classic, oak-driven base profile.
The result is a rum that breaks with the more traditional sherry and port cask finishes in favour of something more unexpected and aromatically complex.
