About Distillerie A1710 Rum

Distillerie A1710 is a French distillery on Martinique making rhum agricole using craft methods on a historic plantation. For newcomers, it's a great first taste of the fresh, herbaceous style that defines agricole rum, while connoisseurs will appreciate that this is the island's smallest distillery, using a small batch still instead of the continuous column stills that otherwise dominate production on Martinique.

History & Background

The name A1710 refers to the founding year of the historic Hardy plantation where the distillery is located today, but the story actually begins with Jean Assier, who arrived on Martinique in that very year, 1710, and founded the estate. The "A" in the name stands for the French word "arrivée", meaning arrival. Today the distillery is run by his descendant, Yves Assier de Pompignan, who revived production in 2016 after a pause of several generations. A fun coincidence for Danish visitors: the distillery shares its address with the Danish consulate on Martinique, where Yves himself serves as Danish consul.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled as rhum agricole from fresh cane juice from its own fields, giving a fresh, herbaceous character typical of Martinique.

Signature Style

Fresh, Herbaceous, Clean
The flavor offers a distinct, grassy freshness characteristic of classic rhum agricole.
