The whiskey is made in small batches to preserve a rich, complex flavour profile with notes of vanilla, caramel and nuts, and the name is today one of the most recognised in award-winning American bourbon. History & Background

Legend has it that in 1789 Reverend Elijah Craig accidentally reused a barrel that had been charred inside to remove old residue and discovered that it gave the whiskey a reddish colour and a sweeter, rounder taste. Although modern historians are sceptical that Craig was actually the first to use charred barrels, the myth is so central to bourbon history that Heaven Hill named their new premium bourbon after him in 1986. The name has since grown into one of Heaven Hill's best-selling and most critically acclaimed brands, frequently highlighted at international whisky competitions.
