Heaven Hill Whiskey

Heaven Hill started right after Prohibition ended with no brands, no whiskey stocks, and in the middle of the Great Depression — a gamble as wild as launching a dot-com in the nineties. Today it's America's largest family-owned spirits producer, still run by the same Shapira family who dared take the chance back then.

  • Elijah Craig Small Batch
    Item no.: 22227865410-9000

Small Batch is Elijah Craig's modern core expression, named after the father of bourbon.

    Expert description

Elijah Craig Small Batch 94 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the distillery's core expression, blended from selected barrels for a balanced profile, bottled at 47%. Elijah Craig is named after the Baptist minister who, according to tradition, was the first to age his corn-based whiskey in freshly charred oak barrels in 1789 — a practice that has since become the very definition of bourbon. Historians still debate whether the story is entirely accurate, but the name lives on at Heaven Hill Distillery, which produces every major American whiskey style and is one of the leading champions of the Bottled-in-Bond tradition.

A survivor from a bygone era, with a bright yellow label that hasn't changed in decades.

    Expert description

Mellow Corn Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey is an American Straight Corn Whiskey, bottled at 50%. The whiskey was originally created by Medley Distilling Company in 1945 and came under Heaven Hill's ownership in 1993, after changing hands several times along the way, including through Renfield Importers and Glenmore Distillery. Unlike most corn whiskeys, typically sold as unaged moonshine, Mellow Corn is aged for at least 4 years in used bourbon casks. The mash bill consists of at least 80% corn, supplemented with malted barley and rye, giving it a sweeter, softer profile than traditional bourbon. The distinctive bright yellow label has remained largely unchanged throughout the whiskey's lifespan.

    Tasting notes

About Heaven Hill Whiskey

Heaven Hill Distilleries was founded shortly after the end of Prohibition by the Shapira family in Bardstown, Kentucky, and is today the seventh-largest spirits supplier in the US and the second-largest holder of aging bourbon in the world with over 900,000 barrels in stock. The firm is behind a long list of well-known brands, including Evan Williams and Elijah Craig, and has over two decades expanded from purely American whiskey into a broadly diversified portfolio of imported spirits brands. Collectors especially seek out the annual, hand-picked releases in the Parker's Heritage Collection, while newcomers can start with the house's accessible core brands.

History & Background

Heaven Hill was founded in 1935 in the middle of the Great Depression, just two years after the end of Prohibition, by the Shapira family, who started the company from scratch with no brands and no whiskey stocks. Despite the difficult conditions, the firm grew steadily through the 20th century and is today America's largest independent, family-owned and family-run spirits producer, a rarity in an industry marked by constant acquisitions and consolidation. The Parker's Heritage Collection, named after sixth-generation master distiller Parker Beam, launched in 2007 as a tribute to his more than 45 years in the trade and continues each year with new, rare releases.

History & Background

The distillery was founded in 1935 by the Shapira family, shortly after the end of Prohibition, and remains family-owned across several generations today, making it one of the last major independent distilleries in Kentucky.

Production & Style

Heaven Hill produces whiskey using traditional Kentucky methods and ages its production across numerous warehouses that together hold millions of barrels of bourbon and rye whiskey.

Signature Style

Rich, Caramel, Versatile
The flavor varies by release, but a rich, caramel-driven character with notes of oak and spice runs throughout.
