Mossburn Whisky

Mossburn didn't start with a distillery, but with a nose. Neil Mathieson has traded rare Scotch casks since his twenties, and that experience still shows in every bottle - now also from his own distillery on Skye.

    The Mossburn Cask Collaboration Series is a testament to enduring friendships, bringing together the knowledge, craft and experience of two producers from different categories. This is a meeting of inquisituve minds and iconic spirits.

    This Collaboration with Foursquare Distillery is the first in the series. The spirit started life as a classic expression of Speyside Malt Whisky, first aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks before re-aging in American oak casks which previously contained mature Foursquare rums. These barrels were hand selected from the Foursquare Distillery in St. Phillip, Barbados.

About Mossburn

There's something stubborn about Mossburn. The company started with an eye for good casks, not a distillery building, and the philosophy remains the same: seek out the best casks from Scotland's distilleries, let them mature as needed, and serve the result without fuss. For newcomers, Mossburn is a shortcut to quality whisky from well-known distilleries in an accessible, well-balanced style. For collectors, the name is even more interesting - as a young independent bottler with roots back to the 1990s and full traceability on every cask, Mossburn has quickly built a reputation as one of the most serious players in the cask-driven bottling market.

History & background

The story starts with Neil Mathieson, who in his twenties founded the import firm Eaux de Vie and, as early as 1992, released his first Scotch bottlings. Mossburn Distillers was formally established in 2012 as part of the Swiss company Marussia Beverages, and in 2017 the company opened its own distillery, Torabhaig, on the Isle of Skye - the first new distillery on the island in over 190 years.

Production & style

Mossburn blends, bottles and distils, with casks selected from a wide range of Scottish distilleries supplemented by its own production from Torabhaig on Skye, where peated malt plays a central role.

Signature style

Versatile, Full-bodied, Authentic
Flavour varies by source, but often carries a full-bodied, distillery-true character, with a peated, maritime signature from the Torabhaig production.
