  Crystal glass shows every spot and every water mark if it's dried the wrong way. Riedel Microfibre Crystal Cloth is the cloth designed specifically to give the glass the streak-free shine it deserves after a wash.

  The Expert’s Description

  Riedel Microfibre Crystal Cloth is a polishing cloth from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel, made from microfibre and designed specifically to dry and polish crystal glass without leaving streaks or lint.

  The cloth is a natural companion to any of Riedel's glasses, whether it's one of the machine-blown tumblers or one of the more delicate, hand-blown pieces, and it belongs in the cupboard right next to the glass collection itself.

  Design & Material

  The microfibres are woven fine enough to lift moisture and grease from the surface without scratching the glass, unlike ordinary kitchen towels, which can easily leave lint or micro-scratches on a thin-walled crystal glass. The cloth is soft to hold and can be used again and again.

  Use & Care

  Use the cloth dry, right after the glass has been hand washed, and polish with light, circular motions until the surface is clear and streak-free. The cloth itself can be washed at a low temperature without fabric softener, so the microfibres keep their ability to absorb moisture.

  The Riedel Superleggero Champagne Flute 4425/08 is a hand-blown champagne glass from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel's Superleggero line, made from crystal glass. Superleggero is Riedel's attempt to push hand-blown crystal to its technical limit – the glass is meant to feel like it almost disappears between your fingers, while still holding up to everyday use.   Design & Material

  The glass is hand-blown and then drawn out into the long, slender stem that defines a classic flute. The crystal in the Superleggero line is blown extremely thin, which demands a glassblower with years of experience – the thinner the glass is blown, the greater the risk it collapses mid-process.

  Use & Recommendation

  The glass is built for Champagne and other sparkling wine, where the slender shape holds the bubbles as long as possible. Always wash it by hand in warm water without detergent, and avoid the dishwasher – the hand-blown crystal is too thin and fragile for machine washing.

  The Riedel Superleggero Coupe / Cocktail / Moscato 4425/09 is a hand-blown coupe glass from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel's Superleggero line, made from crystal glass. The coupe glass had its heyday in the cocktail bars of the interwar years, before the flute took over as the obvious choice for Champagne. Riedel has revived the shape in the Superleggero line, hand-blowing it in crystal so thin the glass feels almost weightless in the hand.   Design & Material

  The wide, shallow bowl is one of the hardest shapes to hand-blow in thin crystal, because the molten glass has to be spread evenly across a large area while it's still workable. The stem is short and sturdy compared to a wine glass, making the coupe glass more stable to hold through a cocktail evening.

  Use & Recommendation

  Use the glass for Champagne cocktails, a classic Champagne coupe pour, or a sweet Moscato, where the wide bowl brings out both the bubbles and the aroma. Wash it by hand in warm water, and avoid the dishwasher, as the thin crystal breaks easily during machine washing.

  The Riedel Superleggero Decanter 1925/01 is a hand-blown decanter from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel's Superleggero line, made from crystal glass. Superleggero is Riedel's attempt to push hand-blown crystal to its technical limit – as thin and light as possible without sacrificing strength. The decanter's wide base gives the wine a large surface area to breathe, and the shape is built for full-bodied red wines, several of which you'll find in our range of red wine.

  Design & Material

  The decanter is hand-blown in crystal glass by experienced glassblowers who shape the entire piece in a single, continuous motion while the glass is still hot. The wide, low form gives a large surface area, which noticeably speeds up the wine's aeration compared to a bottle. The foot is designed wide and stable, so the decanter stands securely even when full.

  Use & Recommendation

  The decanter is built first and foremost for full-bodied red wines that benefit from extra oxygen before serving, but it also works well for decanting an older wine off its sediment. Wash it by hand in warm water without soap, and let it dry upside down on a decanter stand if you have one – avoid the dishwasher, as the thin crystal can easily be damaged.
