Bergslagens Gin

In Sweden's Bergslagen region, known for its old mines and deep forests, the distillery sits on a former slaughterhouse site near Örebro. It's a landscape rich in wildlife, and that Swedish wilderness is the starting point for the distillery's gin, snaps and whisky. Bergslagens Destilleri proves that industrial history and natural beauty can be distilled into a single flavor.

    Expert's description

Bergslagens Organic Gin is a Swedish organic gin from the Bergslagen distillery, bottled at 45.7%.

The gin is produced on a small scale, handcrafted, with a base spirit triple-distilled from selected wheat varieties.

The recipe is built on lingonberries, juniper, coriander seed and lemon peel, giving a sweet and spiced citrus aroma.

The gin is part of the Nordic Gin House series, which produces four different gins each reflecting the local character of their country: Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. In 2020, Bergslagens Classic Organic Gin won World's Best Gin at the World Gin Awards in London.

About Bergslagens Gin

The Swedish distillery Bergslagen is located in the central Swedish region of the same name, historically known for its rock mining with many small mines and open shafts. The whole region is surrounded by deep forests, waterways and mountains rich in wildlife, and the distillery, based on a former slaughterhouse site outside the town of Örebro, produces gin, snaps and whisky alike. For newcomers, the distillery's broad portfolio is a natural entry into Swedish microdistilling, while connoisseurs will notice the clear Nordic ingredient profile running through the products.

History & Background

The Bergslagen region has a long industrial history stretching back several centuries, driven by iron and ore extraction in the many small mines that shaped the landscape. The distillery is housed in a former slaughterhouse building outside Örebro, a deliberate choice that ties the product to the region's industrial past rather than a classic pastoral idyll. Today the distillery sources its botanicals and ingredients from the surrounding forests and waterways, using the region's wild nature as a consistent identity across its gin, snaps and whisky range.

Production & Style

Juniper and local botanicals from the Bergslagen region are distilled into a gin meant to reflect the Swedish forest and mountain landscape.
