Nantou Whisky

In the middle of Taiwan, in the town that lent the distillery its name, a state-owned spirits company proved that whisky knows no geographical borders. Nantou started out producing local rice and sugarcane spirits, long before anyone imagined the island as whisky country. When neighbor Kavalan put Taiwan firmly on the whisky map in 2005, Nantou followed suit and converted part of its production, driven by the same warm, humid climate that matures whisky faster than almost anywhere else on earth.

About Nantou Whisky

Nantou is a Taiwanese distillery, run by Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation, and part of Taiwan's rapidly growing whisky scene.

History & background

Nantou was founded in 1985 as part of the state-owned Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation, originally focused on local rice and cane spirits. When Kavalan kick-started Taiwan's whisky adventure in earnest in 2005, Nantou followed suit and shifted part of its production toward single malt. The distillery sits in Nantou City in the middle of the island, giving it the same warm, humid climate that defines the rest of Taiwan's whisky industry.
