Brooklyn Gin

Brooklyn Gin is New York's answer to sunshine in a glass - hand-peeled citrus, crushed juniper and a small-batch pace that owes nothing to mass production. It was born from two friends who wanted a gin better than anything they could find on the shelf.

About Brooklyn Gin

Brooklyn Gin is distilled in small batches in the heart of Brooklyn and has quickly become known as one of the most citrus-driven gins around. The trick is simple but labour-intensive: the citrus peel is cut by hand and added after distillation, so the fresh oil from the peel never gets a chance to evaporate. For the curious gin drinker, Brooklyn Gin is a lesson in how American craft thinking can reinvent a classic London Dry style without copying it.

History & Background

Brooklyn Gin was founded by Emil Jattne and Joe Santos, two friends who shared a frustration that no gin on the market tasted quite right to them. They began experimenting in small quantities and landed on a recipe where fresh citrus takes the lead role rather than a supporting one. The name is a tribute to the borough where the distillery is still based, and where gin culture is thriving today.

Production & Style

The gin's base is neutral grain spirit, redistilled with juniper and a set of classic botanicals, after which hand-peeled citrus - typically orange and lemon - is added post-distillation. That gives a fresh, oily citrus character that would otherwise be lost if the peel were boiled alongside the other botanicals.

Signature Style

Citrus-fresh, Spicy, Vibrant
The gin opens with a wave of fresh orange and lemon peel, moves into spicy juniper and coriander seed, and finishes vibrant with a light peppery edge.

Did You Know?

Did you know the citrus peel for Brooklyn Gin is cut by hand rather than machine-pressed, since hand-peeling avoids the bitter pith and keeps only the oily, aromatic part of the peel?
