Vintage Port Wine

  • Bottle of Dalva 2016 Vintage Port with deep ruby red label
    Item no.: 22227865464-88144554

While most Port styles are made to be drunk now, this one is made to wait - a bottle that only truly unfolds decades from now.

    Expert's Description

Dalva 2016 Vintage is a Portuguese Vintage Port from the single vintage 2016, bottled at 20%.

A Vintage Port is only declared in years when the grape harvest is considered exceptional, and the declaration itself must be approved by Portugal's wine authority, the IVDP - unlike Tawny and Colheita, it spends only a short time, typically around two years, in wood before being bottled unfiltered and left to mature further in the bottle for decades.

Because the wine is unfiltered, it develops sediment over time, meaning it should be decanted before serving - a process that sets Vintage clearly apart from the other, more accessible Port styles.

Dalva is the Port brand of the house C. da Silva, founded in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1933 by Clemente da Silva. Although the house is particularly known for its Colheita Ports, Dalva also declares Vintage in years when the grapes warrant it.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

    Investment Potential

Vintage Port is declared only in the finest years and made for long-term ageing - a recognised vintage such as 2016 is among the most sought-after categories for Port collectors, precisely because production is limited to exceptional years.

    Did You Know?

A vintage only officially becomes a "Vintage" Port once the house's assessment of its quality is approved by the IVDP - in most years, houses instead use the grapes for Tawny or Colheita, making every declared Vintage a deliberate bet on that year's exceptional quality.

  • Dark bottle of Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos 2015 Vintage Port with vintage label
    Item no.: 22264-102334

High above the Douro river, where the terraces drop steeply toward the water, lies Quinta dos Malvedos, the estate that has been the heart of Graham's finest vintages since 1890.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos 2015 Vintage Port is a Portuguese single-quinta vintage Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 20% from the 2015 harvest.

Unlike Graham's classic Vintage Port, which blends grapes from several estates in an exceptional year, this bottle comes exclusively from Quinta dos Malvedos. The wine ferments briefly and then matures in cask before being bottled unfiltered, giving it the fullness and structure a true vintage Port is known for.

Quinta dos Malvedos became part of Graham's in 1890 and is regarded today as one of the finest estates in the Douro Valley, with steep terraces facing the river. The estate is both the cornerstone of the house's vintage Ports and its single harvest tawny Ports.

2015 was a year in which Graham's chose to release Malvedos as a standalone single-quinta vintage rather than folding it into the house's main vintage blend, giving the bottle a more direct, site-specific character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose shifts between fennel and wild rosemary with a hint of mint, moving toward ripe, dark berry fruit and a touch of violet.

    Palate

The palate is intense and concentrated, with juicy blackberry and a touch of liquorice, carried by firm tannins layered with fresh, ripe fruit.

    Finish

The finish is long and satisfying, closing dry and structured, where the firm tannins give way to a last glimpse of sweet fruit.

    Investment Potential

As a genuine single-quinta vintage Port from a named estate, Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos 2015 is sought after by collectors interested in site-specific expressions rather than the house's larger, blended vintage bottlings. The wine's tannic structure also points to considerable further ageing potential.

    Did You Know?

Quinta dos Malvedos sits on a prominent bend overlooking the Douro river and is regarded by many Douro experts as one of the most beautiful estates in the entire valley, as much for its setting as for the grapes grown on its steep terraces.

  • Dark bottle of Graham's Quinta do Tua 2022 Vintage Port with gift box
    Item no.: 22264-15563

At the confluence of the Tua and Douro rivers lies an estate with vines older than most of us. In 2022, it was allowed to stand alone on the label for the very first time.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Quinta do Tua 2022 Vintage Port is a Portuguese single-quinta vintage Port from the Douro Valley, matured in oak casks and bottled at 20% from the 2022 harvest.

The wine is made from old, mixed vines, known in Portuguese as vinhas velhas, grown, harvested and vinified together rather than variety by variety. The method produces a complexity that is hard to achieve by blending single varieties afterwards, since the different grapes ripen and contribute to the must at the same time.

Quinta do Tua sits where the river Tua meets the Douro and has long supplied grapes to Graham's other Ports. 2022 was the first time the house chose to release a standalone vintage Port exclusively from this estate, making the bottle a new addition to Graham's collection of single-quinta vintage Ports.

The vines on Quinta do Tua behind this bottle are around 50 years old, giving grapes with low yield and high concentration, a key factor behind the wine's depth and structured tannins.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers an abundance of black and red berries, spiced with a touch of mango that lends an unexpected freshness.

    Palate

The palate is bold and compact, with ripe, dark berries wrapped in peppery tannins that give the wine an impressive structure and considerable ageing potential.

    Finish

The finish is long and dusty, with a mineral, almost graphite-like character that underlines the wine's depth and age-worthiness.

Dark as night over the Douro Valley, with violets and blackcurrant breaking through, as if the wine has not yet decided to settle down.

    Expert's Description

Martha's Black Label Vintage Port 2016 is a classic Vintage Port from the declared 2016 harvest in a 75 cl bottle with an alcohol content of 20%.

Unlike LBV and Tawny, a Vintage Port is bottled unfiltered already in its second year of life, which gives it enormous ageing potential and means it should be decanted before serving.

Martha's Wine & Spirits only declares a vintage in years when the grapes from the family's vineyards in Baixo Corgo reach a truly special ripeness and concentration, and 2016 was exactly such a year.

Black Label Vintage Port 2016 has earned considerable recognition from international wine magazines and is regarded as one of the house's most important recent releases.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Opulent aromas of ripe, dark fruit and forest flowers, with a clear burst of violets and blackcurrant.

As a young but genuinely declared vintage year from a respected family house, Black Label Vintage Port 2016 belongs to the category port collectors often follow closely with a view to future bottle ageing. The potential is assessed as Medium, since the vintage is still relatively young and will only show its full potential after many more years of ageing.

    Did You Know?

2019 was a year when the Douro sun gave the grapes exactly the concentration needed to carry a whole bottle on its own – dark, juicy and ready to drink now.

    Expert's Description

Martha's LBV Port 2019 is a Late Bottled Vintage Port from the 2019 harvest in a 75 cl bottle with an alcohol content of 19%.

The style comes from a single, selected harvest and is bottled in the fourth year after picking, giving a Port with the concentrated power of a vintage year but without the need for long bottle ageing or decanting.

Martha's Wine & Spirits has roots as grape growers in Baixo Corgo dating back to 1727, and the LBV style shows the house's ability to balance maturity and freshness in the same bottle.

    Tasting Notes

  • Bottle of deep, dark vintage port from Quinta do Infantado
    Item no.: 222464-381

Violets, black-pepper-soaked plums and a fresh, almost saline finish - the 2020 vintage from Quinta do Infantado is a Port with an edge.

    Expert's Description

Quinta Do Infantado 2020 Vintage is a vintage Port from the Douro Valley in Portugal with an alcohol content of 19.5%.

The wine comes exclusively from the 2020 harvest and is made in the traditional way, with foot-treading and brief cask ageing before bottling for further maturation. The style is powerful yet fresh, with a green edge that plays against the sweet, black cherry and blackberry fruit.

Behind the bottle stands Quinta do Infantado, founded in 1816 and run by the Roseira family since the late 1800s. In 1979 the estate became the first in the Douro Valley to bottle its own Port on site, a pioneering decision that still shapes its style today, with third-generation João Roseira overseeing both vineyard and cellar across the estate's 46 hectares.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers violets, black-pepper-soaked plums and a hint of tanned leather.

    Palate

The palate is powerful yet fresh, with a light green edge to the sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit, spiced with a touch of coffee.

    Finish

The finish is medium-dry and lightly saline, giving a surprising, taut edge to the otherwise generous fruit.

    Did You Know?

Although Quinta do Infantado is now known for breaking with the large trading houses in Vila Nova de Gaia, the estate remains one of the smaller producers in the Douro Valley - the entire operation, from vineyard to bottle, runs on under 50 hectares, modest compared with the large Port houses.
