About Tres Hombres Rum
Tres Hombres is the name of both a sailing ship and the rum it brings home from the Dominican Republic without using an engine, powered only by wind. The ship was found as a wreck of a German fishing vessel, used as a minesweeper during World War II, discovered in 2007 and converted by three friends into the beautiful sailing ship it is today, with the long-term goal of transporting only organic and sustainable goods. Collectors see each vintage, blended in collaboration with acclaimed master blenders and released in a limited number of bottles, as a unique meeting of old-fashioned seafaring and modern rum craft, while newcomers get a rum whose story matters as much as its taste.
History & Background
In 2007 three friends came across the wreck of an old German fishing vessel that had served as a minesweeper during World War II and decided to convert it into a fully functioning sailing ship powered entirely by wind. The project, called Fairtransport, had a clear goal from the outset: to transport organic, biological and sustainable products in a way that reduces the overall CO2 emissions associated with international freight. In 2010 the ship began bringing home rum from the Dominican Republic, blended in collaboration with acclaimed master blenders, and since then a new, limited vintage has been released every year, each carrying its own unique imprint from the voyage that brought it to Europe.
